The topic is important to educators because it directly affects student safety and their feeling of security while at school.
The legal and ethical implications that are directly related to this topic include the proper use of funds to purchase firearms. Secretary of Education, Betsy Devos considered the use of ESSA funds.Educator preparedness, training and emotional intelligence in this situation is also a concerned because it may put additional persons at risk.
In my future role as an administrator , there could be a time when an active shooter could get into the building as schools have become a target. Our number one priority is to protect our students.The wait time between the onset of an intruder and the time it takes to detain him, many lives are hanging in the balance.
