Armada Latina (or “Latin Army”) is a song by Cypress Hill, a Cuban-American Hip Hop duo, featuring prominent Latin artists Pitbull (Cuban) and Marc Anthony (Puerto Rican). This is an ode to Latin American pride. As of today, Latinos are one of the nation’s fastest growing minority groups. However, some Latinos may feel removed from this identity - due to race (ex: Afro-Latinos) and the colorism that exists today in Latin America, immigration statuses, etc. Cypress Hill, Pitbull, and Marc Anthony emphasize Latin unity, as there are several barriers Latinos must overcome - and almost all impact health equity. They remind us to keep our heads up, as the fight is only beginning.

The song is mostly in English but the chorus is sung in Spanish by Marc Anthony. Here’s a translation:

“Oh Caribbean - Land of my beautiful people
Sky and sun follow me wherever I go
Little brother, the fight is just beginning
I was born with Taino blood”

This song is beautiful to me. Before we can help and change the world, we must first be right within ourselves mentally. You never know what a person is going through, and as a world, we need to be kinder to one another. This world needs some love and a peace of mind.
