1. What data will need to be captured by each of the 3 ICT-based systems to provide the support outlined above? (Try to be as extensive as you can.)

Shop Manager → Find dequately intelligent and experienced staff, appointing them to correct roles. Staff → Knowledge via experience with customers and work skills, adapting to the SMS for clocking in and out and for inventory
Head office --> Appropriate budgeting for goods, allocating suppliers,

2. Using ideas outlined in the lecture, discuss how the dimensions of Executive, Management and Operational information systems apply to the case study.

Operational → decisions at this level are “algorithmic” and can be automated Head office, ordering goods based on sales weekly Staff, clocking in and out, recording inventory Shop manager, monthly payroll, inventory as well

3. Think back also to last week’s lecture and seminar, what other lessons could we draw that would inform information systems design at Coffee Cocoa.

Input → baristas, managers, supervisors
Output → satisfied customers, returning customers

Input of head office --> organization for ordering goods, deciding on pay, deciding products
Output --> satisfied customers, staff, financially stable business

Input of staff --> hard work, organization, customer satisfaction skills
Output --> again satisfied customers, better for business, accurate inventory helps with finance

Input of manager --> allocating adequate staff members/employees, budgeting
Output --> financially stable business

1. The sales staff will need data about transactions, inventory, waste, as well as timesheet.

Store managers will need scheduling, sales reports, inventory reports, payroll information.

Head office would need data about orders to pool them, payroll data, sales reports for financial planning, performance data, in depth inventory reports.

2. Many of the operational tasks could be automated, such as payroll, stock ordering, inventory management and sales reporting.

Whereas for head office to decide on what products to sell will require 'what if' analysis which cannot easily be done through an IS.

3. Data would be primarily inputed by shop staff through the POSS system, including inventory management and sales.

This would lead to an output of various different data sources, such as sales reports, automated stock ordering and sales reports.

Data captured by the POSS will be primary data captured directly from the consumers which will include sales of different products. This can give data about what consumers are buying and what is needed to be restocked straight to the shop managers. Data captured by the SMS will include HR data like employee hours and the sales by each employee. Head office can then analyse this information and act out decisions that affect the three areas.

Executive information systems allow for head office to analyse data produced by staff and managers to then create decisions in terms of what they may be selling. Management information systems allow for direct contact with staff in terms of their efficiency and labour hours, they can then analyse this and for instance. decide which employee is excelling or lacking. Operational information systems apply to the sales end in terms of what needs to be restocked depending on the amount of items sold, for example the POSS will acknowledge when coffee beans will need to be restocked depending on the amount sold
