Application
This short film is a good way to start introducing the topic of war between countries and how it affects families and children (For 3-4 graders). Moreover, it also teaches students about making predictions. In the end, the boy sailed into the water. The teacher can ask students, What do you think will happen to the boy? In addition, students can learn about the story plot, character development, etc.

Summary
In the "New American" poem, Medina talks about the stereotypes of immigrants in the United States. He focuses on changing the portrayal of immigrants in this country because immigrants are hard workers, students, and good citizens of this country. They are what Medina calls "New American".

Application
This is a good way to introduce poems to our young students. We can use this poem to show our students that poems are short and sometimes rhymes. But most importantly, we can teach students about stanzas and how poems have a lot of stanzas.
