I really appreciate the 5 parts of the policy— very clear and easy to understand. I think we all need more guidance and PD about what to do with students and how to teach this and also what to do when students violate acceptable use

We need to incorporate Media Literacy, including using appropriate AI and citing AI. We need embedded lessons.

The district needs to lift the blocks on AI for educational needs.

I support AI to some level. In translation I am against it, especially that what we teach in class with world languages is totally different from what the students find online. I had a big issue this year with a lot of students using AI to write Arabic while they didn't know how to write Arabic.

I would love to have a uniform consequence for when kids break the AI policy, especially when they use AI to do their work (essay writing, etc.).

The state is requiring all districts to develop a policy on artificial intelligence. Both the Governor and the Connecticut State Department of Education (CSDE) have expressed strong support for AI integration in schools. AI literacy is expected to become a requirement in the near future, and several districts are already piloting AI initiatives in collaboration with the state. Additionally, Google has signed an agreement to support these efforts.

I agree that there is no way we could avoid AI. I also agree that if we frame the discussion on AI use in a positive light- as a resource but does not replace learning itself, students won’t see this as another way to express their rebellion against. I think the challenge would be having too many students for teachers to be able to provide individual monitoring and guidance.

The concerns we’re hearing about AI mirror the arguments made when the internet first became mainstream. Rather than avoiding its use, we need to adapt our assignments to be AI-resilient. In doing so, students will develop new and evolving skills that reflect the realities of a technology-driven world.
