In this lesson I learned the differences between a fixed mindset and a growth mindset and how these different styles of thinking affect your motivation and your success. An example of a fixed mindset is someone who thinks that when it comes to intelligence everything is black and white and whatever intelligence they have is locked and that will never change. A growth mindset is the ideology that no matter what if you put enough effort in your learning you can learn and increase and improve your intelligence. Along with your mindset, I also learned that your source of motivation is another key to your success. If your motivation comes from your love and curiosity of a subject and you motivate yourself out of pure interest and fascination then you are Intrinsically motivated. This type of motivation can have more positive outlook, sense of belonging, and more engagement. unlike Extrinsic motivation that is based off of the reward or what comes at the end. This can be for things like good grades, praise, and recognition.

In This lesson I learned how you should use context, etiquette, emotional intelligence, and listen when engaging in a conversation. This lesson focused on how we should address people such a as teachers and higher ups properly and to not use texting lingo because it comes off as unprofessional and could give off the wrong impression. Another important skill is emotional intelligence because understanding others and your emotions can prevent miscommunication and prevent yourself from saying something rash. Finally, the last few skills were listening and self advocacy. When it comes to actually listening one should stop and giving your undivided attention so that you can truly listen and give your best effort the understand what the other person is trying to communicate to you. Self advocacy is acknowledging yourself and what difficulties you have and speaking up about it. All these skills are key to conveying what you are feeling so you can communicate properly.

After that, I learned how to be successful with my time with a variety of different strategies like the eat the frog, time boxing method, pomodoro technique, and more. I also learned about different variables that can affect time management like procrastination, the spaces you work best in, and how you balance time conflicts. At the end of the lesson I found that the time boxing strategy is what works best for me and have been implementing it to my daily life by setting a certain amount of time for each activity and task.

In this lesson I learned about V.A.R.K. which is an acronym for the different forms of learning. V.A.R.K. stands for Visual, Aural, Read/ Write, and Kinesthetic and represents the main four forms of learning. In class we did a deep dive into each type of learning and looked into the preferences for each form. Afterwards, I took a quiz to see which type of learning styles I feel into and found out I was a visual and kinesthetic learner. This means that I understand the material being taught to me better when I'm being shown it which is why I fell into the visual category. Along with that, I found out that I am also a kinesthetic learner meaning that I benefit from learn in a hands on environment or having something to connect back to such as images, experiments, and field trips. This was helpful for me to find out and helped me understand how to better involve myself in learning by trying to connect the information I receive.

In this lesson I learned about using active reading to help you process and better understand long reading. When it comes to active reading it there are four steps to do it properly. First off, you take time to break down the reading into short portions to read. Then, you read the portions and write down annotations as you go through it, and finally when your done go over and review everything you wrote. When it comes down to annotating its best to write down key details like main ideas, explanations, key terms, supporting details and causes and effects. Along with that, its important to take note of vocabulary and annotate words that your unfamiliar with or are important to memorize. Finally, I learned about the SQ4R method which I linked a photo above showing it. SQ4R Stands for Survey, Question, Read, Record, Recite, and Review. So far, in my classes I haven't had a text book to study but going into my future classes I'll definitely keep the SQ4R method in mind when it comes to studying because it seems like it could help me a lot.

In this lesson I learned about how to actively listen during lectures and instructions. The best ways to listen are to give undivided attention to the speaker and to not only pay attention to the words being spoken but to look at the speakers body language because it can show signs and cues. Along with that, repeat what's been said and if you lose track or having difficulty understanding ask a question.

In this lesson I also learned about the various different note taking strategies that can be used. The four different strategies that were shown were Cornell, Outline, Mapping, and T-notes which are for math. I found that the Cornell note taking strategy seemed like the best and most practical strategy to help me with note taking. Cornell notes are similar to normal note taking but its broken into two margins where one is for notes and useful information and the other is for creating cues or triggers to recall what you wrote down. Going into my next semester I will be trying to implement this strategy to my notes.

In this lesson I learned about the different strategies when it comes to taking tests, like how to deal with anxiety, how to prepare, how to focus, and how to get over the different forms of test. When it comes to anxiety it isn't always the worst because it's really common to have test anxiety it can provide some Adrenalin that can help you focus on your test. If the anxiety becomes unbearable then some ways shown to help are stepping outside, parking thoughts, and to not catastrophize. When it comes to preparing, cramming everything last minute isn't the best because you don't remember it long term and you can forget by the time your test starts. Its better to figure out the test times and to schedule study times throughout the class leading up to each test. When it comes to actually taking the test don't give into peer pressure if your the only one still taking the test, complete the easy sections like multiple choice first, and trust your gut when it comes to answers. For true or false words like sometimes, often, and ordinarily usually make statements true. When it comes to multiple choice answer the ones you know first then go back and do the process of elimination to figure out the rest. For essays, making a brief outline helps start you out and start by stating the thesis and support for it. So far in my classes I haven't had any major test even when it comes to finals although, as I get closer to graduation I do expect to take more test the closer I get and I think looking back to this it will be beneficial for me when test become more common.

In this lesson I took a assessment to figure out how stressed I actually am and found that I have had a good amount of stress in the past year. Afterwards I learned about how to minimize my stress in different environments like in school, work, and home. A lot of it stems from having good communication and expressing your feelings along with managing your time. Stress can come from a lot of things like poor self care whether it be physically or mentally. It could be coming from lack of a good diet, lack of exercise, lack of sleep, and over all lack of things your body needs to function. when it comes to stress relieving doing things like breathing techniques, exercise, and laughter can all help relieve stress. After learning this I have actually applied the breathing techniques to my daily life and it has helped me stay cool and less stressed at work and school.

In this lesson I was in a team of the classmates around me and we had to list supplies from most to least helpful for surviving in the cold after a plane crash, and then explain what our plan for survival would be. After that, I learned about critical thinking, and how its goal driven and has purpose behind it. When it comes to critical thinking all the information is analyzed and calculated because critical thinking is steered towards problem solving. Critical thinking also helps evaluate arguments. When using critical thinking in arguments you should look out for logical fallacies which means mistakes in the argument this can be things like personal attacks, false analogy, hasty conclusions, false cause and effect, and emotional appeal. Lastly, there are 6 steps to critical thinking and those are identify the problem, brainstorm, analyze, think of pros and cons to the solutions, choose best solution, then evaluate the solution you chose to see if it was the best or if another solution would have been more beneficial.

In this lesson I went over a lot of financial information like how credit cards work, how to budget responsibly, and thinking about the future with your money. I learned how you should break down your income into savings accounts and also retirement accounts. Prior to this I never had thought about starting a retirement fund yet because I figured that I still have a lot of time to go before I get to that spot but after finding out that its never to early I've taken that into consideration and plan on starting a retirement fund soon. Along with that I learned about how having a job can hurt schooling and how working at school could be a good way to keep a good work and school balance. In this lesson I also learned about how scary debt can really be and how debt can negatively affect you throughout your life. I learned how to track and manage your spending habits and avoid debt and how to keep a good credit. This lesson really opened my eyes to see how real life on your own can be when it comes to money and showed me that even though it can seem scary as long as you stay responsible with your money there isn't much to fear.
