Suspense and Confusion Is created in scene one, through the use of confrontations with Hamlets father in multiple scenes and Hamlet interacting with his uncle and mother. Confusion is created in the beginning when Marcellus and Barnardo see the king appear right in front of them and they say, " What art thou that usurp'st this time of night. Together with that fair and warlike form in which the majesty or buried Denmark dis sometimes march? By heaven, I charge thee, speak." After this, suspense is created when Hamlet is with his mother and uncle, and his Hamlet says," A little more than kin and less than kind." This creates suspense because his uncle is embarrassing Hamlet in front of the whole kingdom, and he responds with this.

In Act I scene ii, Hamlet says this quote to Marcellus and Horatio. This means, more bad and horrible things are going to happen. It's significance is that Hamlet wants attention because his dad is coming back to haunt him. Shakespeare includes this quote because there really is something bad that's going happen, and it is about who killed Hamlet's father.

In Act I scene ii, Claudius reveals himself as a capable monarch in this scene. One way Claudius' character is shown through him saying, "Therefore our sometime sister th'imperial jointress in this warlike state, have we, as 'twere with a defeated joy." This shows that he is focusing on the war with Norway and not on the death of King Hamlet. One last way Claudius shows his character as a monarch in this statement, "How is it that the clouds still hang on you?" This shows that Claudius shows little respect for Hamlet and his father's death.

In act I scene v, the ghost reveals that Claudius has murdered him. This makes Hamlet very mad. After this, Hamlet fakes being insane to keep others from finding out his plans to kill Claudius. He also does it because nobody would believe him if he said he talked to his father's ghost. Hamlet says, "As I perchance hereafter shall think meet to put an antic disposition on."

In act 1 scene 1, suspense was created when Francisco showed up to the watch tower and Barnardo didn't know who it was. Once Barnardo figured out who it was he was happy because he was cold and depressed and was able to go home. When asked if Horatio was there he says "more or less," meaning he is not in his full state of mind. At the end of the scene the ghost appears in front of Marcellus, Horatio, and Barnardo. They were trying to get the ghost to talk and if it didn't they were going to strike it.

In act 1 scene 2, the queen is not in mourning with Hamlet but instead she is celebrating with the new king and the rest of the castle. The queen shows that she is not in mourning when she tells Hamlet " you cant spend your whole life with your eyes to the ground remembering your noble father." The queen also tells Hamlet that its alright that his father died because all things eventually die no matter what because it happens all the time. This shows that the queen does not care at all that her husband died because she moved on and got married again to Hamlets uncle.

in act 1. iV, Hamlet and his friends are waiting for the ghost which is the suspense of the scene. There are many touches of surprise in this scene. For example when the ghost appears it surprises Hamlet and his friends. Another example is when Hamlet leaves with the ghost that shocks his friends! A contrast is when King Claudius is upholding Dane tradition and celebrating with gunshots. He should be mourning the dead Hamlet still. "The king is staying up all night drinking and dancing. As he guzzles down his Germna wine, the musicins make a ruckus to celebrate his draining another cup"
