We looked at the Paralympic Games and how people with disabilities enjoy and succeed in sports. We used our different senses to help us. We used our ears when we had our blindfold on to listen to the bells in the ball to catch it when our partner rolled it to us. We played volleyball on our bottoms as well as many other games.

We read ‘What happened to you?’ and discussed how the boy would have felt in he story. We discussed how the children should have treated him and questions we should ask our friends. We introduced ourselves to each other in circle time, sharing our name, age and what we like. We then sat with someone new and asked them more questions, e.g. What’s your favourite book? We ended the lesson sharing what we have found out about our new friend.

In this lesson, we made a pirate hook to use as a prop to play games that Joe was playing in the story. We also attempted colouring with our non-prominent hand.

We shared The Great Big Book of Families and discussed our different family members. The children took part in a range of activities:

Some drew their family members
Some wrote sentences about their family members using interesting adjectives
Some created an acrostic poem about their family
Some created a poem with multiple verses

The children used blind folds today to experience football without sight. They used a special ball with bells inside so they could hear rather than see.

We used our critical thinking skills to understand why the rat whispered as he did and how the cats felt in reaction to the rat's actions. We then discussed ideas on how the two groups of cats could live together peacefully.

In maths we voted on our favourite animal, we then converted this information into tally charts and pictograms. We then used our reasoning skills to answer questions from the poll.

We used our creativity this afternoon to create silhouette pictures using stencil and chalk. We had to use our resilience when cutting the stencils out.

We made the most of the beautiful weather we had and played a game of Whispers to pass a message around the circle. We were surprised to find out how much our original whisper changed. This game linked with our story wonderfully and the children understood the importance of not listening to whispers from others.

Critical Thinking and Creativity - We spoke about why the rat whispered his message and had a discussion surrounding this. We then went off and wrote our own whispers that the rat could have said. Then we played a whisper game to see if they travelled correctly!

Creativity and Communication - In PSHE, we explored different scenarios when it came to gossiping. We were all given a different scenario and characters, and we had to work in a group to roleplay the scenario. Then, each group performed their roleplay and we had to guess what the scenario was.

Creativity and Curiosity - We created silhouette pictures inspired by our book, The Whisperer. We used our curiosity skills to think about how we could use the chalk to create an effect on our final piece, alongside showing creativity in the process.
