Mr A wanted to use humour when communicating his itention for students to do the project and talk at their level (build TSR). However, his choice of words with the students was demeaning.

He can consider growth mindset and focus on more positive behaviours instead of negative behaviours. There is a difference between witty and embarrassing students so he could consider students' perception of the words.

The teacher's words could be perceived as humiliating and might negatively affect how other students view these three students. Such comments risks fostering an environment where bullying could occur. Rather than offering constructive feedback, these comments fail to address the underlying issues. A more effective approach would have been to speak with the three students privately to ensure they understand the tasks properly. Given the teacher's position of authority, the students are likely to take these negative comments to heart, which could impact their self-esteem and academic confidence.

The teacher's choice of derogatory language, particularly labelling students as "lazy bums" and stating their "attitude sucks", was highly unprofessional and inappropriate. Such harsh and informal terms have no place in an educational setting. A professional educator should use respectful, constructive language that focuses on specific behaviours that need improvement, rather than resorting to personal attacks or negative labels. This type of language not only diminishes students' dignity but also sets a poor example for the entire class about appropriate communication and mutual respect.

The teacher can consider more constructive approaches:

Instead of making assumptions about Student B's "attitude", Mr A should have first checked on the student's wellbeing and understood any underlying concerns or challenges they might be facing.

Regarding group formation, several proactive strategies could have been implemented:

•	Pre-planning group allocations to ensure balanced teams and prevent isolation.

•	Actively facilitating group integration for students who seem hesitant or excluded.

•	Implementing on-the-spot class reorganisation if the current arrangements weren't working.

Most importantly, the situation highlights the need for differentiated instruction and incorporate the roles of each student and lay down ground rules.

The teacher should consider:

•	Adapting lesson materials and instructions to accommodate different learning needs

•	Creating tailored tasks that match students' abilities and learning styles.

•	Providing varied levels of support to ensure all students can participate meaningfully in group activities.

These approaches would create a more inclusive learning environment while addressing individual student needs more effectively.

In conclusion, as a teacher, and the only adult in the classroom, Mr A needs to know the impact and weight of his words, and role model the behaviour that he wish the students to emulate.

Part 1:

(1a) Intention is for the 3 students to work. But his words labelled the students and that made the students unmotivated and disrespected. Those students in the class would look down on them. That made them even less willing to involve in the group work. Students labelled would increase their reluctance to work. Choice of words on these students would affect the impression on other students.

(1b) Inappropriate word used ('sucks') on the stu, in front of the whole class and that made the stu move into a more reclusive mode - self-fulling mode. He may not know what is happening in class - not being able to catch up with the lesson. Tr could have brought the student to the side and ask him what is preventing him from being participating in the class discussion.

Cliques would already been formed and stu B probably felt left out. Would be more constructive and effective if tr had grouped all the students so that no one stu would feel left out.

(2) Tr could pull the 3 students out and find out what is happening with them. What has the tr done to address to the 3 students' needs/ behaviour? Tr can give roles to the each student so each one of them can be held accountable for their group work.

Tr should find out why the stu is feeling so tired - could have a valid reason, should not just jump to conclusion and label the student.

Tr could have some emotional/ personal problems which affects his state. His emotions could be addressed and he could talk to someone about his problems/ emotions.

Assign a peer buddy to each of the 3 students to guide and support these 3 students. Tr can assign tasks to these 3 students which can amplify their strengths. Tr can use more positive words/ encourgement to these students.

The post appears concerning:

The emotional tone and strong language suggest this was written in a moment of frustration, rather than after careful reflection. While feelings are valid, expressing them this way may not lead to constructive outcomes.

The broad generalisations about teachers and the education system lack nuance and fail to acknowledge the complexity of educational challenges. Many dedicated educators work tirelessly to support their students.

The criticism of the "Every School is a Good School" initiative would be more compelling if supported by specific examples or constructive suggestions for improvement, rather than blanket statements.

Such public statements could potentially impact the reputation of both the school and the wider education community. A more measured approach to raising concerns, perhaps through appropriate channels, might be more effective.

Part 2

(3) He is frustrated and doesn't like his current class - he just ranting on about his anger. He is not happy with the sch/ students - a clear indication that he needs support. He may need counselling himself to better help him cope with his emotional state. He is doing more self-harm by just ranting and not reflecting on his behvaiour.

A could be young and inexperienced or someone experienced who is just jaded about his career. His actions would be a common act about the younger generation who feels confident in managing online materials. He maybe too confident of his online friends to hold his rants confidential. But his posts could be screen-shot and taken offline or elsewhere by others who can misinterpret his post. It could be his habit of posting his rants and frustrations by expressing them online. He could be a lonely person who has no one to talk to / vent his frustrations.

(4a) Alert Mr A about the feedback given and provide support to him. FT could offer to meet up the parent with YH together for additional support and advise for A.

Advise A to apologise to the parent and walk through his speech to the parents with A, to better prepare him. Walk A with his initial intentions and frus when he blurted out unprofessional phrases onto his students and how he could have better handle the situation instead and advise him on how he should respond to the student(s) instead.

Reassure him that he has a listening ear with trusted colleagues who could give him advice on how to handle his frus. FT can regularly check in with him to check on his emotional state.

(4b) Craft his speech prior to meeting the parents - to better help mediate the relationship with the parents.

FT and YH can work with A on how he can re-assimilate the stu's confidence back into the class - which could be shared with the concerned parent.
