I think the most important social identity in my life is knowing who I am and where I come from. I guess in an essence one can say my cultural identity is very important to me and shaped me who I am today. It's important because there is so much that can be tied into my cultural identity my interests, my values, what I eat, how I carry myself, the way I do things. Knowing where I am from and where my family has came from is something I feel is important to my social identity because it can be a point of connection not only to my students and their families but also the community and to know what they're going through and how they will approach moving forward. Being Mexican and being proud of it has been something that has been integrated into my practices and who I am. But also knowing where I come from, Chavinda Michoacan, is something I hold near and dear to my heart. The motherland madre Mexico.

communtiy

Week 2 My manifesto

My manifesto is based on having a positive learning experience with students to be able have an impact and grant them the opportunity to learn effectively and positively. Before my language what I stood for as a future teacher was heavily emphasized on success and language around it was basically numbers based. Soon after I changed that perspective as I was able to actually begin to see what a classroom is like and what I would want to implement in order to have a positive learning experience where there is a strong relationship between myself, the students, and their families. A respect across all boards. My manifesto is built on calmness, productivity, respect, love, creativity, the arts, expression, and success. I want my students to become embedded leaders and foster many core values not only in education but in life as well.

To this particular situation about my student having two moms instead of the dominant narrative mom and dad I would immediately respond with some people have two moms and others have two dads others have just have a mom and others just have a dad. No matter what they always have someone caring for them and will be treated the same.

Week 4 Dominant Narratives in the Standards

In second grade I think its funny that they begin to talk about what is and what looks like a good citizen. It talks about the how students will recognize and know the importance of the bald eagle which defiantly I feel enforces the dominant narrative of a westernized mentality and the symbols that are associated with western culture to label them as the most important. Students also will study and analyze artifacts and texts based on the presidents and American heroes (George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, etc). This can induce the dominant narrative but idolizing the "American Heroes" but not recognize some of the truth and wrongs they have done in their history. It can paint a false positive figure of "American Heroes" and completely skip over some of the realities that these figures did.

In the second grade standards there are notions of heroification and specifically with presidents and iconic historical figures in the United States and potentially in the world (2.5). In another standard there are also influences and notions of normalization specifically tied to the U.S. government and complying to be deemed a good or law abiding citizen. Also within this standard there are notions of the normalization of the use of military force and why they do they things they do in order to "protect" the United States. (2.3) There is also notions of normalization of being a capitalist and the influence starts young on understand and taking action within the market. (2.4)

My lesson will be based on economic differences and the understanding of nationalism. My lesson is probably intended for the upper grades mainly 5th grade as the standards are a little more in depth in terms of the understanding of different social constructs. (5.4) In this lesson I will utilizing "El Clasico Tapatio" which is the oldest Mexican futbol rivalry that has ties to social construct being immigration, economic differences, nationalism, and different social classes.

First source would be a video explaining the foundation of the rivalry that is paced above.

The second source would be an online article that students and I would go through to further gain a deepened understanding of the rivalry and where it stems from in different social classes and economic backgrounds. https://www.ntrguadalajara.com/post.php?id_nota=277
