I enjoy the swimming pool analogy, as the article states, "..it provide[s] a better reality." When viewing the model as a ladder it indicates that the goal is always redefinition, when in reality it is a cyclic process in which we need to be able to "wade" between the levels of technology integration. Just as in a model like Bloom's, we can't always be at the highest level. Each step is important in the overall learning process.

I appreciate the analogy--I think it's refreshing to hear that we don't always have to be in one end of the pool. Instead, we can fluidly move from section to section based on the pedagogy and purpose of the learning.

I liked how the article talks about how some individuals need time to adjust going step by step with the process just like SMAR allows you go to through the steps. The swimming pool analogy is great because it shows us how each person takes things at their own pace. With time, practice support and motivation we can make things work.

This article reminds us that students are stakeholders as well. We need to work with them as collaborators in this new, unchartered territory. It goes back to first providing the scaffolding for them with the intent that they eventually take the reigns; students can then create possibilities for themselves. When allowing students to experiment with technology they will teach us as we teach them.

The article emphasizes that teachers often need to relinquish control and place students in charge of their own learning. By allowing our own fears about different areas of the pool dictate the teaching and learning in our classroom, we do our students a great disservice.

This article helps us see the scaffolding of how children learn. Baby steps in the beginning and then moving forward until they are comfortable on their own. Without those initial steps it is hard to get to where you need to go. Eventually the students will take off and be teaching others and the teachers what they have learned.
