This term could mean very different things of each person. For slaves it didn't mean anything, they coudn't change their status, because this revolution only ment changing a white government for another white government. For women it also meant almost nothing. They still couldn't vote, and they were also considered wards of their husbands. There was not such a thing for equality.

Some women fight in the revolution dressed like men like Devorah Sampson. This didn't change much, because they were still considered wards of their husbands. Or, if they were unmarried, saleable assets of their fathers. The Republican Motherhood became important for a well-educated citizenry. Howerver this didn't chage the roles for women.

This revolution didn't brought too much revolution for the people, specialy slaves and women. What was revolutionary at that time and after this revolution were the ideas. New ideas were born, like the idea of more people voting, at that time only a few people could vote, obviously rich white men. Another importan idea was, the idea of true religion freedom, meaning that they believed that God had created the world and then he just steped away to create more universes. Also Thomas Jefferson called for a "Wall of Separation" between church an state. This ideas changed the economy too. Equality of property was also a revolutionary idea.

In the revolution slaves were controlled by fake promises and lies. Lord Dunmore guaranteed freedom to any slave who deserted his master and fought for the british. 5000 slaves took the offer and other saw the revolution as a chance to escape. American troops were brutal to americans idians who fought for the british, burning villages and enslaving prisioners, contrary to the accepted rules. Also, indians didn't get any type of rights, thet didn't got much. Slavery was on decline until Eli Whitney went and invented cotton gin, so they reinvigorated slavery. They didn,t end slavery.

A lot of people say this revolution wasn't that revolutionary. Why is that? The main argument for this is in the government. This didn't change much. A bunch of rich white men governed the colonies, and then another bunch of rich white men governed the colonies.

They were the most benefited, but they also had disadvantages. Not every white man could vote, for most of the states they still had property qualification for voting. However there were far more voters than there had been.
Rich white men owned slaves who worked commonly in the cotton fields. It was also common the traffic and sale of slaves. Pregnant women, rapes and sex abuse was also very common.
