Morgurgo shows us that the training camp is different to war by telling us it's a game of make believe. From the evidence we found in the text such as, "we did a lot of laughing in those early days." It shows that it was different from war because there was a lot of joy, laughter and no worries. During war they wouldn't be laughing at all. He says " ... In those early day," which suggests that it's not like that anymore. In addition, Tommo talks about "the straw-filled dummies," showing that there is no fear of attacking them and its different because the dummy can't fight back so it's 100% chance that they won't die. You also feel no guilt when you kill a dummy however there is guilt when you kill a person. Furthermore, he says that "it's a game of make believe," his shows us that they still don't believe that they are soldiers. They feel as though they were just acting the part of a soldier in a play. They feel like the war feels surreal. When we read this we feel sorry for the soldiers as they will never know what war is like until they look war in the face. They won't be prepared for such a horrifying battle. We also feel scared that the soldiers might not know what they are up for.

Morpurgo shows that the training camp is not like war by telling us that it is not realistic and it is make-belief. To prove this Tommo mentions "Even with the bayonets it was still a game of make-belief. This shows us that the soldiers felt like their training was all make-believe as they never actually experienced a real battle feeling. "We did a lot of laughing" this also links up with the earlier quote because they thought that they were just playing a game that would never effect their lives. It basically means that they found it too easy. Another piece of evidence was when Tommo said "At the straw-filled dummies." The problem of it being straw-filled dummies is that they wont have the same feeling of a person fighting them due to the fact that it is a dummie. They also won't have the guilt of actually killing someone as they would not fight back. When I read this I feel angry at the army because the army should make the environment more like a battlefield so the soldiers won't think it's a game of make-belief. We also feel sorry for them because when training, they wouldn't experience a battle feeling making them not pepared for battle

Morpurgo shows us that the training camp is different to war because he explains how it's just like a game of make-belief. He mentions the "straw filled dummies" because it would be much more gruesome when you kill a real soldier and straw filled dummies don't fight back. Furthermore when Tommo says "We were back to play-acting war games in full pack" it shows us that everyday of their life in the training camp was just like a rehearsal for a school play. The training camp was not very realistic making us feel scared for the soldiers when they finally face the reality of war. e also feel sorry for the soldiers cause they don't even know what exactly they are facing.

Morpurgo shows us that the training camp is different to war by how they train the soldiers. It is more like a game than war to them. When Tommo says "It was still a game of make-believe" this shows us that they were describing training for war as a childs game, for example: make-believe (as he had said). Also they didn't take it very seriously. He also said "We'd have to charge foward at the straw filled dummies" this piece of evidence shows us that running towards the dummies was completly different than running at an actual soldier. Also when running towards the dummies the dummies couldn't move or duck and there was no fear. But when running towards real people/enemies there was lots of fear and the enemy could move and could maybe kill them. We feel really sorry for the soldiers mainly at this point because they are in for a horrifing suprise, and are not ready for it, as they have no idea what real life out in war is going to be like. We feel unhappy to know that when they kill a real person, they will feel guilt. We also feel sad that the soldiers think that it will always be a game of make beleive and they do not know what is ahead of them.
