Singapore’s climate efforts support our national interest by helping us stay successful and globally relevant. Even though we’re small, we take real steps like the carbon tax, Green Plan 2030, and net zero goals to show leadership.

By working with ASEAN and global partners, we build trust and attract green investments. This also keeps our economy strong while preparing us for future climate risks.

It’s a smart move — we stay competitive, protect our environment, and show the world that Singapore can lead, even without big land or resources.

Principle: A Friend to all, Enemy to None

Singapore’s national interest is to maintain regional peace and stability by having good relations with both the US and China. This helps us benefit from trade, security ties, and investments from both powers.

Taking sides could hurt our economy or make us a target, so we stay principled and consistent. For example, we support international law (like the South China Sea ruling) but don’t take political sides. We also join military exercises with many countries, not just one.

By being balanced, Singapore protects its own security and stays relevant in global affairs — smart diplomacy for a small state.
