Symbiosis is defined as a close, prolonged association between two or more different biological species. This relationship can be symbiotic (mutualistic), where both parties involved benefit from the interaction, or it can be parasitic, where one party benefits while the other is harmed.

Cleaning symbiosis is well-known among marine fish, where some small species of cleaner fish, notably wrasses but also species in other genera, are specialised to feed almost exclusively by cleaning larger fish and other marine animals. Other cleaning symbioses exist between birds and mammals, and in other groups.

Here, both species are recieving benefits, because butterflies obtain nectar from flowers and in the process pick up pollen grains from the flowers. When they visit the next flower, some of the pollen grains get transferred, thus resulting in pollination. So, both the plants and the butterflies benefit from this interaction
