Houses are small and very close together with large families crammed into the small homes.  This overcrowding can causes diseases to spread very quickly between people. This is made worse due to the unsanitary conditions. Houses are very small and cramped up together as well as people getting cramped in each house therefore it's easy for the houses to break as they were built on old stands and to many people can make it fall.The river flowing through could be polluted making their supply of water usually coming from the river, which could cause illnesses which could spread around the community.This settlement could also have a likely hood of flooding, these floods will easily destroy these peoples homes because of how unsustainable there houses are.This will cause poor health care for children because of the polluted water.

Houses are small and flooded. The water is very dirty and look very unhygienic. There are trash everywhere which pollutes the water and the roads. Flooding is a big isue because there are no sewers to help reduce the water as you can see. The water contains diseases   There are not that much traveling because the water flooding has made traveling my leg harder. The homes have water entering them. Because of the overflow of the water. Overcrowding could be a major issue because not many people can walk at the same time.

The Squatter Settlements in Fiji are very crammed together and are built next to a river. Building it next to a river can cause frequent floods in the settlements. Infrastructure of the house are very unstable. The houses in the settlements are very vulnerable when the river floods, which can cause it to break in a very bad flood. It is unlikely that the people have insurances for their houses which can cause problems for them.  Although, flooding is the main problem, there are more to the disadvantages. The houses are close to each other and it can cause many unsanitary conditions. The problem with Squatter Settlements is that education is very limited. Children learn in local and poor schools which can affect their life when they are exposed to the civilized worlds. - Azra

This place is very crowded. There are a lot of houses that are cramped together and not that much room.  Most people would have to share a house together and, the houses would be small.  There is a very dirty environment because of the open sewers.  A lot of people would get sick because of the poor conditions there like the sewer water that has a lot of trash in it. Here there is a very bad smell since the open sewers could attract mosquitos which gives diseases like dengue and zika.  It would probably spread since the place has lot of people in the same area The people here would have a hard time recovering from the sickness because there wouldn't have that much access to doctors. Houses are really cramped up together, this can cause diseases by the way they share the same area to do laundry. The water system got mixed up with sewage water. This means the people wearing clothes washed from sewer water. The smell also attracts many mosquitoes, some may evern cause dengue and other diseases which can take your life away. The other problem is that around the area you can see the modern houses, this shows the border between the poor and the rich. This causes many people to throw more trash from the rich to the poor. This makes the more unhygienic as many people walk barefoot and something might get stuck in their feet. These are just some of the problems caused by this area.

  • Most of these houses are cramped, small and fragile with big families living in them. This specific area would flood with ease do to the water surrounding it. Due to the cramped area, diseases can spread and result  to death. Clean water is hard to find because of all the trash in the water. The water also carries diseases that may also lead to death. You can see how fragile the houses are because the one on the left looks like it has collapsed. These houses are made out of  thin, fragile wood. Medication is probably hard to find in a place like this, especially when they are travelling around in a small, probably homemade boat.

    This squatter settlement in Philippines is very unhygienic / unsanitary and there is lot of waste disposal in the river. The houses are unstable meaning they can be easily destroyed by natural disasters.There is no insurance for healthcare and houses, because they are in a poor state. The people living in their self-made houses may have various of diseases or water-borne diseases because of waste disposal and plastic lying around. This unhygienic place should be taken care, to reduce the amount of diseases caused by the dirty environment.

The other thing you can straight away pick out, is that this area/space is very unhygienic due to the fact that everything is old, rusty and especially dirty.Squatter Settlements have a lack of access to many basic needs, including schools, proper infrastructure, hygiene and health. Usually, in squatter settlements sewage pipes are beneath or next to the path so water supplies are easily contaminated and waterborne diseases spread throughout the area, very  swiftly. This is a great problem, as in this area there aren’t any medical health care, that is licensed.
