Short term effects are slowing the brain function & slow pulse & breathing,  lower blood pressure. Cause confusion, dizziness, sluggishness, depression, visual disturbances see things that not there and get addicted to it easy. Long term effects would be when you're taking it you start build tolerance and need more of it to get same effect depression, chronic fatigue, breathing difficulties, sexual problems and sleep problems.  It can lead to death from bad judgement under the use of the drug like driving under it influence or overdose, too much of it that your body can't take it and it quits and you can  or will die.

Seizures and death which is why not ever in the first place to start taking it.
