It is very difficult for me to list all the reasons why it is essential to increase STEM education in our current society, so I will give you some examples knowing that it is not exhaustive.
Global warming that does not know trends inversions; plastic that invades every place on the planet and, in particular, the oceans; micro and nanoplastics that enter in the marine food chain and, therefore, in ours; the ozone hole that does not seem to want to close; the constant loss of biodiversity; the need to find vaccines for current illnesses and for the probable epidemics with which we will have to face in the immediate future; the problem of renewable energy and mobility; the problem of privacy and so on.
The STEM education and the increase of scientists in these key sectors of society is really fundamental, also, and above all, to form an informed and critical public opinion about the political choices of their governments and to support a ruling class, local or international, which often fails to understand the problems we will have to face in the near future.
