Université du Québec and Universitat de Vic are collaborating on this short virtual exchange about teaching English. The aim is to provide networking opportunities for those of you training to be English teachers by getting to know trainees from another country. You will also be immersed in a virtual exchange experience as an example of a communicative activity to use with future classes. The virtual exchange also presents a chance to develop your intercultural competence and digital literacy, both essential skills for teachers.

Meeting 1: Breaking the Ice

Before the meeting

Prepare multiple types of media (visuals, text, video, audio, links etc.) to introduce yourself during the meeting.

During the meeting

1- Point out the main cities and landmarks on a map of your country and explain where you live and study.

2- Show a brief video of your university or provide a virtual tour of your faculty.

3- Talk about yourself - your personality, family, home town, hobbies, work, why you want to be a teacher, future plans.

4- Talk about your country - traditions and festivals, music, food, latest news headlines.

After the meeting

Prepare a couple of slides to introduce your group in the final pitch at the end of the project.

Final Pitch

Each group member presents their virtual exchange to their classmates at their home university in a 5-minute pitch.

Before the VE

1- You will be assigned a group for your virtual exchange.

2- You will receive the emails of your group members.

3- Contact your group members and arrange a time for three online meetings. There is a 6-hour time difference: 12pm Quebec is 6pm in Spain.

4- Share the meeting link with your group.

During the VE

1- Keep your cameras on

2- Select "Gallery view" so everyone in the group is visible.

3 - Greet each other as you connect and make small talk until everyone is present.

4- Complete the weekly task together.

After the VE
