My favourite hobby is reading novels, any type really.

What I like the most about teaching is the way I see my students learning, (it is just awesome!) and also the things I learn from them.

The reason why I am taking this course is mainly to aprehend new ways to catch my student's attention and to motivate them a bit more during my lessons.

I expect to acquire new skills by using all the ideas I'm about to get throughout this course.

This is Juanjo. I am a teacher of English in Caravaca de la Cruz. I have decided to take this course in order to gather some ideas on how to make the most of using videos in lessons since they are an amazing way of keeping our students motivated and engaged.

My name is Sara and I'm an English teacher at CEA Vega Media (Molina de Segura). I enrolled in this course to get additional ideas for my classes, since I think students are highly motivated by video activities.

In our second activity, students will have to say the routine phrase when they see it (receiving feedback from the teacher to improve their pronunciation).

In my classes I always use this song to remember the parts of the body. In class we sing the song and point to the part of the body it indicates.

In the first part of the activity we listened and repeated: head, eyes, feet...

Then we indicate different parts of the body and point them : point your nose, point your leg... and the students point them out.

It is a way to learn in a group, with everyone participating and practicing listening and pronunciation.

It is important that the students learn and know their body parts, for this reason we use slide number 8 with the song, "ME!"

We work in several parts. In the first part we sing the song and we point out the different parts of the body. After the song we play the game: point to your nose, point to your leg, point to your head... Then we expan the vocabulary and associate action verbs with the different parts of the body: clap your hands, stomp your feet, slap your knees...

To end the activity, the Responsible Student of the day draws himself and when he has finished, we all help him so that he does not forget any part of his body in the drawing.

With this activity, children interact with their classmates and also with the interactive whiteboard, singing songs, choosing icons related to the themes that appear in the videos and drawing themselves.

In addition, all students participate actively and learn in a fun way.

They will be watching it at their own pace, using laptops in class or at home, if it is an activity to do at home prior to its explanation in class ( Flip Classroom).

Once they have watched it and taken some notes, they will fullfil some activities to check their understanding.

I have to say that I 've recently done this activity in class and it really worked!

I try adding graphics along with the text, titles, synchronised speech, underlining the content progressively, it is a familiar video as it is the same teacher who speaks in the video, that is, me. There are videomultiple choice exercises to be done by the students before being corrected in the same video by the teacher. I used a video programme (Adobe) Google free images for the pictures and Adobe for the uses of titles synchronized with the words

This video explains the origin of Halloween for English as a Second Language students.

According to Mayer's 12 Principles, this video doesn't follow two of them: Spatial Contiguity Principle and Image Principle. Thus, a way to improve the Spatial Contiguity Principle could be adding text in the video to show the speech in the form of written text. On the other hand, to improve the Image Principle, the author could have added her image in the screen.

Once upon a time there was a boring teacher who did not know how to teach, he just repeated the same old, worn off stuff. The students were nice to him, though; in fact, they loved him. For this second task, I have chosen a video from Youtube about the History of the British Pound. We have recently studied the unit titled "Money Matters" in class and I think watching this video will give students a greater insight into the history of our legal tender.

According to Mayer's 12 Principles, those that I've answered "no" to are:

-Redundancy Principle: because apart from graphics and narration, we can also find on-screen text, which is sometimes a bit redundant.

-Personalization Principle: the language used is not informal nor conversational, it is more impersonal and formal.

-Voice Principle: the voice used to make the video is a synthesized computer voice rather than a real human voice.

Apart from these three points that I would personally change in this video, the rest is perfectly fine in my opinion.

This course seemed interesting as nowadays it's getting more and more difficult to get students' attention!!!

My name is Silvia Barba and I´m a primary english teacher.

I decided to dothis course firstly because it provides a dynamic and engaging way to expose students to authentic language usage.

Videos make learning more accessible and inclusive.

And, also, for teachers is a good source of materials.

According to Mayer´s Principles, it follows them because:

"Multimedia Principle": it adds the graphics, the images of the animals, to the words.

"Coherence Principle": it excludes other things which are not wild animals.

"Signaling Principle", it is very focused the aim of this video, although I find it quite short and the author could have introduced other wild animals depending on where they live...

"Redundancy Principle" and "Spatial Contiguity Principle": images of the animals are together with the narration and the text is close to the images. The images and the narration is at the same time.

"Segmenting Principle", the pupil can stop the video to advance at his own pace, or repeat the word as many time as he need. "Pre-Training Principle": I can´t find it in this video.

"Modality Principle" the image is not used instead of the text. It includes both.

"Personalization Principle" and "Voice Principle"; the sound of the voice is the one of a child, which is better for the kids to feel close to them.

"Image Principle": the narrator of the voice does not appear in the video and I consider it is not so important for this one in this case.

I have chosen a video in which the formation of the present indicative tense of verbs ending in ER is explained to students.

It is a very simple but very clear video in which there are no extra elements that could distract the student from the content.

The voice is very clear and at the same time, and simultaneously, the written explanation appears at the same time as the video.

It is a resource that I have used in class to do flipped-classroom and it has worked very well.

After watching the video, the students were able to do exercises and use the present simple of regular verbs without needing the teacher's explanation.

For the last task, I have created a presentation in canva with an explanatory video and online exercises on the present indicative tense of verbs ending in ER and then a form to check if the students have assimilated correctly the contents explained in the video.

The video I chose for this task is called "Our 11 BIGGEST Culture Shocks in Spain (American's Perspective)" since this is a topic we have been discussing in class (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5aLsXB--bYA).

This video is perfect for the English classroom. It checks almost every criterion on our list and, the one criterion that I answered "no" to is simply because we are not dealing with an instructional video per see, where we teach our students about some aspect or another of the target language; but rather a complementary video on cultural aspects. Therefore, the narrators' images are a must, since they are telling us about their experiences.

My goal with this activity was to make students aware of the different varieties of the English language. By using Edpuzzle, students should comment and discuss this content, all while learning new vocabulary and idioms.

This is a fantastic activity to introduce cultural topics to our most advanced levels (ESO 4th and Bachillerato students)

It is a simple conversation using the future simple, will and be going to. In fact, I love this channel because they use the language in simple situations which are very easy to understand, moreover, is real and useful English.

With this video students learn and practice the future simple through examples. First, we watch the video, then we practice and try to analyze the differences between the use of will and be going to, and finally they practice and talk with their classmates the same conversation, after all our main goal is the students delopment their communicative competence using English in real-life situations.

Regarding Mayer's 12 principles, I've selected yes in all but two of them, the first one, because I don't add any graphic or my words, and the last one because, I think that the learning, in this case, is improved when the narrator's image is shown on the sreen, since it is very useful to understand the conversation.

This course sounded nice and as a good first approach to refresh old-fashioned methodologies. I hope I will be up to the task.

Here, the students will find videos wirh examples and the explanation of the grammar. The content is highlighted and clearly expressed.

The students will watch the videos at home and take notes. This way they will do it at their own pace.

Apart form the videos atached, which follow most of the priciples in Meyer's list, the students will practice with a Kahoot and some interactive activities.

Therefore,

this could be a good starting point to put into practice later, waht they have learnt.

As I see Canva is a good and useful resorce to create your own video, I have created this one in order to practice vocabulary related to sports.

We can play a game and by dividing the class into different groups, each group must write correctly the name of the sports they see in the video.

They watch the images of the video three times and after that we will check their list and see which group did it well.

It´s a nice and fun activity. We can also do it individually.

Later, we carry out another activity in which students will have to say which sport of the video they can do or not.

In conclusion, thanks to this video activity, my students can practice all the different skills such as writing, speaking, listening and reading.

As I´m in Primary, we can adapt this activity to the different levels.

I think this video offers entertaining practice of grammatical structures in use.

I can see all the principles put into practice except for the last one. The narrators's faces are exposed continuously as they are teachers and actors at the same time, but I don't think it causes students to get sidetracked, just the opposite!

I'm an English teacher just on the edge of retirement. The reason I'm doing this course is because I think multimedia can be an excellent tool to implement lessons and engage students into a more active role, something I think Spanish Educational System lacks.

I'm quite a traditional type of teacher but I'm looking forward to change that.

Gracias a esta herramienta he podido analizar mejor la utilidad y la eficacidad del video que he elegido. La falta de uso de imágenes o ilustraciones hace que pierda efectividad puesto que los alumnos pueden llegar a perderse o malinterpretar el texto hablado. Además va moviéndose por Paris, lo cual puede llegar a distraer el espectador (y/o alumno).

Sin embargo, en el video el narrador interpreta en pequeñas escenas las situaciones de las cuales esta hablando, lo cual contextualiza lo que antes a explicado y ayuda a la comprensión.

In the video a presenter asks questions about their future plans, which is perfect for my class since we 're working future simple. Moreover, I add the real life factor and real English, in this case in American accent, but I love to work with different accent because ii is good for them learning that the British English is not the only English but there are lots of accents.

I love videos from Steve and Maggie. He introduces the vocabulary of the different topics through funny and magical stories whith his parter who is a bird.

I had some problems with the answers "Multimedia principle" which is NO and answer "Voice principle" which is YES.

This kind of videos are great to introduce the new topic, using "Pre-, While- and Post- activities".

I answered NO to:

• Multimedia principle: as there are not any graphics in it.

• Pre- training principle: apart from the title of the video, there is no any clue about the topic of the video before watch it.

• Image principle: in the video, the image of the actor is significantly important to understand the message.

I have chosen this video because it follows Mayer's 12 principles and it can be a proper way of introduce a new grammar content for young students. But also it can be used

as a way of reinforcement certain grammar contents for older students.
