They were surrounded by huge walls and they were very close to natural harbor and the Aegean sea was only 4 miles away. They were located south, central Greece. Sparta on the other hand was surrounded on 3 sides by mountains. There land was very fertile because it rain a lot. There harbor was 25 miles away. There was a concil 500 that met everyday to talk about daily business. Every once in a while they have a huge assembly where 6000 thousand people need to come and if not enough people came slaves go get the rest of the people and paint them red. You get shamed if you show up with red paint on you. Sparta on the other hand. Is an oligarchy were there is a council of 30 people called the council of elders. They create and stop any laws. The council is made of 2 kings and 28 60 year old people that are serving for life. For currency they had coins with their god on one side and her favorite bird on the other. Finally they had very strong relationship with many city-states in which they traded with. Sparta farmed for what they needed our they took what they needed form other city states. They didn't not have an Agroa and they used iron bars as currency so it would be hard to steal a ton. Finally Sparta rarely traded with other city-states . Teachers taught reading, writing, arithmetic, and literature. They also taught wrestling and other physical activities. Women were taught to help in the kitchen and at the age of 15 their parents deceide who their daughters will marry. Sparta would rather produce solders than any thing else. At the age of 7 children would be stuck in military training and they would be taught to read and write but mostly they were taught to be a brave soldier. They could not own propity. They could not even marry who they wanted too. She could not even go out outside alone! She would have to supervise the slaves and she would teach her children until they were seven years old. Finally she would be at her best use in the household. Slaves  would do a varitey of jobs. Finally they would work on farms, factory's,  as clerks, and brutal silver mines.Some were trained as artisans.  In Sparta women wore simple cloths and she at a young age would get military training and would be expected to defend there house from invaders.  Slaves were villagers the were conquered  and they were called helots. They could live in there old villages but they had to give up most of the food they grow.
