Maya thinks Mrs. Flowers is the perfect example of how a black woman should be. "It takes the human voice to infuse them with the shades of deeper meaning (Angelou 98). This shows how Mrs. Flowers gives strong advice to Maya about her silence and how she could find her voice. An example of Mrs. Flowers having an affect on Maya is, "All I cared about was that she had made tea cookies for me  and read to me  from her favorite book. It was enough to prove that she liked me" (Angelou 101). This quote shows how fond Maya is of Mrs. Flowers and how she is almost seen to be a source of happiness for her. It was formal without suggesting that going to Mrs. Flowers' house was equivalent to attending church" (Angelou 96). this quote shows that she wants to look good for Mrs. Flowers and in the eyes of Maya Mrs. Flowers was a prestigious women. If she didn't think Mrs. Flowers was important then she wouldn't of cared what she was wearing.

Mrs. Flowers looks beyond what she faces, and interprets the true meaning.
