There are plenty of examples of high tech , low tech and mid-tech devices and services to support the student with disabilities

in their quest for knowledge. We have a low tech device such as a pencil grip, this item will help the student improve hand writing

by building up the shaft of a pencil. Many of the low tech devices can be found in the kitchen, such as can openers with big handles to assist

people with limited strength. Not only does assistive technology service refers to devices, this technology offers evaluation of the student , purchasing the device and among other things

teaching the student how to use the device mandated by IDEA 2004,SEC.1401(2)(F).

Are there any readily available low tech materials in the average classroom in the United States?

Mid-Tech devices are items such as spell check , digital recorders and handheld electronic dictionaries are electronic in design but are less expensive and require less training

than high tech devices.

Does assistive technology include a broad range of devices ,services , and resources?

Desktop computers and laptop computers are examples of high tech devices these items tend to be more expensive and require training. Specialized programs are offered and can be used for

corresponding to e-mail and learning new skills.

Although IDEA 2004 is the most recent reauthorization that governs the education for students with disabilities the reauthorization of IDEA IN 1997 dramatically changed by clearly defining assistive

technology.

What are the differences if any of the two IDEA laws?
