The Super power index is a very accurate reflection of a countries power, its inclusion of different stats and figures from important categories to do with a country and ranking them based on how they compare to different countries allows for a broad look at the most powerful countries making it very useful and a good indicator to do so, For example when it comes to economic power of a nation, Looking at GDP and the biggest TNC's gives a good reading for how prosperous a nation is and ultimately who is more powerful.

Whilst it may look at first glance that the indicator is accurate to each country about its superpower stance, it leaves off many key features and categories that could drastically affect how certain countries would rank on this scale, for example India, Whilst India may have a very large economy compared to others around it it is disproportionate compared to the amount of people that live in India, India has over 1.2 billion people so its economy of $2.3 trillion, the average person only earns around $2300 annually making them very poor.

Soft power is important for a countries influence not based of economics or military, usually this comes down to its social structure and balance, When it comes to Gender equality it should be included in this index as it provides a good look into how equal a society is and how balanced the country is, A country that has a very equal society such as Denmark or Norway will be looked upon more highly when it comes to a model society.

Labour participation is a good indicator for the size and skill of the labour force, This indicator is used to look at the percentage of employable people to the amount that are working in a country, this is used to show unemployment rates in a country. This indicator is a good way to show how prosperous a nation Is to other countries making them a model for others to copy, for Example in 2018 the United States sets a great example for economic success with unemployment down to a long time low, this makes it good model for countries like Greece who have a 30%+ youth unemployment rate to strive for.

Education is the backbone to every society and having a strong education system is very important to raising and filling jobs, driving innovation and pushing boundaries in fields such as medicine, science and manufacturing, Countries that have very successful education systems such as China can be seen as example nations for how others should go about establishing their own education system as to see the best results, this gives soft power to these nations as they will be viewed and perceived by others as being smarter as well as having a bigger say on the global stage when it comes to issues that have to do with education rates and literacy ratings.

The four factors give a well rounded view of a county’s power as they show economic, demographic and military figure. Using only four factors allows the index to remain simple but still provide a balanced result. The index provides quantitative data which is easy to compare and obtain. It allows the counties to be ranked according to each factor and give an overall rank. The index also multiplies more important factors giving a more accurate result.

On the other hand, it could also be seen as inaccurate because it doesn’t take in account any cultural or political power which are also very important for seeing if a country is a superpower. Also, it only measures four factors which you could argue is not enough to create a reliable ranking as you cannot measure the amount of global dominance a country has or the amount of globalisation it has caused in other countries. Lastly, some of the factors are weighted more heavily than the others which could be a problem because some people may not feel that total population is that important for becoming a superpower and that there are others that are more important.
