This song describes a son moving away from home into an unfamiliar and frightening place. This is similar to the plane crash and the sudden separation from society that the boys experienced.

"Dear mother
Can you hear me whining?
It's been three whole weeks
Since I left your home
This sudden fear has left me trembling
'Cause now it seems that I
Am out there on my own
And I'm feeling so alone

Pay attention to the cracked streets
And the broken homes
Some call it slums
Some call it nice
I want to take you through
A wasteland I like to call my home
Welcome to paradise"

Don't Fear the Reaper is about someone reassuring his girlfriend to "don't fear the reaper". The reaper is a symbol of death and fear. Similar to the book, the littluns are terrified of a mythical "Beastie" that roams the island at night. The fear takes over the island as the older boys reassure that there is no Beastie.

"All our times have come
Here but now they're gone
Seasons don't fear the reaper
Nor do the wind, the sun or the rain, we can be like they are

Come on baby, don't fear the reaper
Baby take my hand, don't fear the reaper
We'll be able to fly, don't fear the reaper"

"Pool" describes a girlfriend who has trusted and forgave her boyfriend too many times. He is lazy on his side of the relationship. Just like in chapter 3 of the book, Jack and company have been ignoring Ralph's instructions and do not help with building shelters. This frustrates Ralph because Jack and the boys are being lazy on their side of the relationship.

"As if the first cut wasn't deep enough
I dove in again 'cause I'm not into giving up
Could've gotten the same rush from any lover's touch
Why get used to something new?
'Cause no one breaks my heart like you

And you kiss me, and you wish could see what happens next
For a moment, I can forget what happens in my head
If I doubt you, will you come through with a happy second chance?
A happy ending
But this time you don't leave me sinking"

Fall Away is a song about losing innocence due to an unnamed incident. The narrator also talks about selfish ways developed from this "crime". In chapter 4, Jack and the hunters kill a pig. They cover themselves in blood and mud and walk off chanting while holding it's corpse. All aspects of civilized, innocent boys are gone. The loss of innocence is prominent in both the song, and the book.

"I disguise
And I will lie
And I will take my precious time
As the days spent away
As I stand in line
And I die as I wait as I wait on my crime
And I'll try to delay what you make of my life
But I don't want your way
I want mine
I'm dying and trying
But believe me I'm fine
But I'm lying
I'm so very far from fine

And I, I can feel the pull begin
I feel my conscience wearing thin
And my skin
It will start to break up and fall apart"

Dust describes a revolt in an unknown society. The song uses the fish in ocean and water in a lake to represent people in a society, and they all want a break from control and obsession. Identical to chapter 5 of Lord of the Flies, Jack and almost all the boys on the island revolt. The chaos and disorder are all caused by them thinking Ralph is oppressive and they just want a break.

"No more water in the lake
No more fish in the ocean
They grew wings, flew away
I got a clue where they're going
They want a break, they want a break
No more water in the lake
No more fish in the ocean
They grew wings, flew away
I got a clue where they're going
They want a break, they want a break"

Space Oddity is about an astronaut's journey into space and the eventual death of the astronaut and his ship. He floats off into space never to be seen again. In Chapter 6, the war rages above the island, but the boys never hear it for they are asleep. A parachutist's plane gets hit, killing him, and deploying his parachute. He floats down to the island never to be seen by his peers again. This crash landing situation is mirrored in both pieces.

"Tell my wife I love her very much she knows
Ground Control to Major Tom
Your circuit's dead, there's something wrong
Can you hear me, Major Tom?
Can you hear me, Major Tom?
Can you hear me, Major Tom?
Can you "Here am I floating 'round my tin can
Far above the moon
Planet Earth is blue
And there's nothing I can do"

Running is a song about continuing to fight despite it seeming pointless or almost impossible. It also describes fighting through dark times. Similar to chapter 7, the boys are on the way to the mountain. Many of the boys protest to stop and head home because its getting too dark. Jack says that he's going up anyway and you're a wimp if you don't. Simon and Ralph follow.

"Oh we'd rather live a lie, live a lie
Then face all the heartache
So we live in the warmths of the nights
And sleep through the dark days
Does it even really matter?
Don't even want to get better
Cause it feels like we're fighting for nothing, nothing

So we keep on
Running, running, running, oh, oh
Always hunting something, oh, oh
They take our hearts
Then leave all the noise behind
People
Running, running, running, oh, oh"

In chapter 8, Simon finds a pig head on a stick in his private spot on the island. At this sight, Simon starts to feel dizzy, and the pig starts speaking. He says “There isn’t anyone to help you. Only me. And I’m the Beast. . . . Fancy thinking the Beast was something you could hunt and kill!”. The beast represents the fear and evil everyone has inside of them. To compare, Zombie is about evil and loss of innocence, similar to the Lord of the Flies.

"Another head hangs lowly
Child is slowly taken
And the violence caused such silence
Who are we mistaking?
But, you see it's not me
It's not my family
In your head, in your head
They are fighting

With their tanks and their bombs
And their bombs and their guns
In your head in your head they are crying

In your head
In your head
Zombie, zombie, zombie, ei, ei"

This song describes the murder of an innocence that was caused by trying to do good. A man saved his girlfriend from an abusive father, but he ended up killing the boyfriend. In chapter 9, Simon is murdered by the tribe of boys. He came running out of the woods, saying there is no beast, trying to help the group. They mistook him for the beast and killed him brutally. Different in stories, the image of death caused by "just trying to help" is mirrored.

"And then I felt chills in my bones
The breath I saw was not my own
I knew my skin that wrapped my frame
Wasn't made to play this game
And then I saw him, torch in hand
He laid it out, what he had planned
And then I said I'll take the grave
Please just send them all my way

Roll Call describe the mindless following of a soldier in an army. He listens to the narrator tell him to "Know their roll" and "shoot and kill 'em all". Mirrored in chapter 10 of the book, Jack dictates over his tribe. They torture a kid, and listen to Jack with no question. They have become his own soldiers that do what he says with no question.

"Just run that race, little soldier
No one's gonna win any time soon
Just know your role, little soldier
Don't get left behind, right?

This song is about a ruler obsessed with fame and domination over her people. She takes over the world, one by one, until the entire world is hers. This is similar to Jack's rule that has been seen throughout the last part of the book. Jack continues to take more and more soldiers, like Sam and Eric. Sam and Eric were tortured until they joined Jack's tribe.

"Bite my tongue, bide my time
Wearing a warning sign
Wait 'til the world is mine
Visions I vandalize
Cold in my kingdom size
Fell for these ocean eyes

You should see me in a crown
I'm gonna run this nothing town
Watch me make 'em bow
One by one by, one
One by one by
You should see me in a crown
Your silence is my favorite sound
Watch me make 'em bow
One by one by, one
One by one by (one)"

It also describes the chaos all of the world, symbolized through lightning. Finally, it says to 'Run", telling us to run from these horrible things and chaos. Identical to chapter 12, Ralph is being chased by Jack's tribe. Jack's tribe symbolized the taking over of evil and the chaos it brings.

"I am a human being, capable of doing terrible things (x4)

There's lightning striking all over the world.
