This week we concentrated on the development of the appropriate teachnique for the legs. As is evident the issue here was the bending of the knees. Therefore our cocnetration for this lesson was on keeping the legs straight when kicking. The main drill we used for such can be seen in the video below. The student held onto the wall and kicked her legs back behind her. The legs were kept as straight as possible. The student performed this as slow as possible to ensure the technique was correct. When this was performed the student kicked as fast as possible while keeping the legs straight.

The development of breathing was our main goal for this lesson, in particular, bilateral breathing. To emphasise such a skill the student held a float in the water. The student put her head in the water. Standing still she performed three strokes with her arms. On the third stroke the student lifted her head to the side of the arm that was leaving the water. The student then repeated this process lifting her head on the other side of the body. This process was repeated numerous times in the aim to ensure that the student would become familiar with the technique of bilateral breathing

This week the lesson refocused on the progression of the legs. Previously, as seen in week 1 & 2, the student performed the correct kicking technique in a standing position, holding onto the wall. Therefore, for this weeks lesson, we want to ensure, the student performs the technique while moving. The student will hold a float while performing the kicking movement. This ensures that the arm movement is not introduced, while also allowing for complete concentration on the leg movement. The main aim here is to ensure that the introduction of movement does not result in the student benidng her knees as evident previously.

The progression of bilateral breathing occurred again this week. A very similiar to last weeks lesson we wanted to introduce the aspect of movement. A float would be used again. However, this time the student, would concnetrate on her bilateral breathing. The student would put her head under water for six kicks and lift her head to the side to breath. The student would repeat this process, lifting her head to the other side this time. The number of kicks can be reduced or increased depending on the student.
Laslty, the student was provided with an opportunity to incorporate all aspects together. Here the student introduced the arm, leg and bilateral breathing movements, attempting to incorporate all aspects together.
