There are 30 Vaquita left in the wild. Their mating season is from April to May, and their gestation is 10-11 months. They birth one calf at a time every two years. At birth, the calf weighs around 17 lbs, and is 28-31 inches. Some of the predators of the vaquita include sharks, rays, mackerels, and killer whales.

A reason why the Vaquita is important to the ecosystem because it would disrupt the native ecosystem and cause an overpopulation of the gulf croaker, squid, bronze striped grunt because those are species that Vaquita eat.

The biggest threat remaining to the vaquita is incidental death caused by fishing gear. Vaquitas are known to die in gillnets set for sharks, rays, mackerels, and chano, as well as in illegal and occasional permitted gillnet sets for an endangered fish called totoaba.

We can start a petition to make a law that fisherman can't cast nets in the area that the Vaquita's live in.
