Ways to engage the biological boy in the classroom

- Allow for more of the lessons to include hands on projects. When boys are learning kinesthetically they are more likely to retain a larger amount of the knowledge.
- Typically boys have lots of natural competition so playing competitive games or having debates is a good way to engage them.
- Since boys often learn better visually, teachers should try to use more graphics and images when giving a lecture / lesson.

- Giving girls more opportunities to give back verbal input on the lesson as well as allowing them to talk through a problem will better engage them.
- Creating more arts and crafts into the lecture is another tactic with girls. They love to be creative.
- When giving a girl feedback on a project she has worked on, use lots of affirming words and color.

Strategies to keep the classroom gender neutral

- Don't always stick to stereotypical gender roles when giving examples. Maybe in some cases teachers should not even elaborate on whether or not said person is a male or female.
- Limiting the gender grouping that is typically done in a classroom is a good strategy. Not have a "boys" line and a "girls" line, instead have all the students line up in one.
- Not creating groups solely based on gender is good way to accomplish this. Students should have a seating chat selected randomly or based off of something fair such as last name.

Lessons and / or activities to build awareness and acceptance of the LGBTQ school community

- When dealing with high school students, these lessons can often be taught by a counselor. For instance, a free period in the day can be used for students to gather in the auditorium and the counselor will put on a presentation for them in regards to LGBT awareness.
- High schoolers are also mature enough to have their teachers include this topic throughout lessons. Some classes like math might be a little harder to do this in but in English for example, they could write an essay over LGBT.
- For younger students, something to help make them more aware is to constantly read to the students more stories or word problems that include LGBT community such as same sex couples or a transgender child.

- Teachers need to constantly be aware of their language. The should not address the class as "boys and girls" since they are unsure of the pronouns the children prefer. Instead they should use terms such as "friends" or "everyone".
- Support any club ideas that the LGBT students would like to set up.
- This is an obvious one but do not tolerate any name calling, teasing or bullying towards the LGBT community.
