After looking at the data you have received for your student(s), what does it tell you? How can you use this data to review or re-teach for mastery? Set at least one goal for yourself on what you can do with this data! #ApexGoals #committed

My Apex data shows that my students are all at different places in their mastery of the content. Some are mastering the content, some are almost there, but others are not mastering the content or not completing their Apex assignments at all. The data also shows that my students struggle with monitoring their progress and with making sound decisions about their own learning. A lot of them are repeatedly earning failing scores on the post-tests. Rather than recognizing that they need to use the learn it/review it/try it features, they are trying the post test multiple times without learning from their mistakes. I am going to have conversations with those students about how to fix their mistakes before trying the post test a second time. I am also going to use the data to pull small groups to review/re-teach the content that wasn’t mastered. I can reset the modules and work with the students on the areas they struggled. I am also going to work with small groups of the students who are not completing the work to encourage completion of the Apex modules. My goals are to have all have all my students complete the current unit on Apex and for those that haven’t shown mastery to show improvement by the end of the next unit.

I teach two standard classes and two advanced classes. I cover the modules based on the standard I am teaching during that time. The modules inform the instructor which standards are connected to the modules. I use the "Learn It" section for each module for note taking skills. Students will do the "Review It" videos, as a fresher. Students struggle with the Pretest, depending on the topic. Since we started with Apex late, most of the topics were covered. I have noticed an increase of "Test It" and "Posttest" scores since I started doing whole class notes and giving examples outside of the "MyPerspective" textbooks. Students now feel confident with the topics and strengthening their skills. The advanced students are almost 90% ahead of my other two classes and the quality of work is higher with these two classes.

After reviewing the data I have received for my students, it tells me that each one of my students are learning at different rates and at various levels of understanding/mastery. This tells me that some can do fine of their own when is comes to learning directly from the information presented and others need more small group instruction and guidance from the teacher. I can use this data to have small group instructions but have various groups led by myself and then group others based on their mastery level and appoint a "teacher" for each group. One goal I have for myself on what I can do for this data is set aside one day a week each students looks at their personal data and fills out a google form reflecting on their scores and identify their own strengths and weaknesses.

Using the Apex Learning data allows me to see what strengths and weaknesses my students have with a particular skill, concept, or just the way questions are being asked /answered. The data that I'm currently gathering allows me to make comparisons with Common Formative Assessment (CFA) questions and various questions that students struggled with while working in Apex. Apex also allows me to give immediate feedback, which is crucial for growth and of course to plan for reteaching and small group. When its time for students to try Apex review/ testing again, it's one click away. Moving forward and as it gets closer to testing season, my students will be more aware of their own Apex data by charting it. I think that this will allow them to take more responsibility for their own learning.
Thanks,
Demia Johnson

The data I reviewed allowed me to ascertain what information my students knew before I started the new unit. I can have my students focus on the areas where the material was unfamiliar. I can easily differentiate learning goals for my students based on their individual needs. I am working toward having my students become more responsible for analyzing their own data and therefore taking more responsibility for their own learning.
Joy DeBruler
