I learn that most of the projects that fail is because they are late or over budget, it is important to follow the rules.

I also learn that sometimes, even managers don’t know how to take control of a project and they need help, that tells me that it don’t matter how “smart” or “capable” are we to be in charge of a task, observation, attention to detail and TEAM WORK are the most important tools to succeed as a project manager.

Back when I was all about getting various certifications, I briefly heard about project management. I had no idea what it was. After reading the first chapter, I came to realize that it seems that I was often passed over from doing special projects, or if they did happen I really did not have a good experience. More often than not things announced as projects often times were really not as the project never truly ends, and it simply becomes a new thing to be done. I can also say, without any reservation, that when I hear phrases 'teamwork', 'group efforts', 'company-wide initiatives', and the like, my mind often starts to panic and the klaxon begin to sound : layoffs are coming!

Some of his/her team members may be going through problems outside of work and to deal with this without offending that teammate while at the same time continuing the progress of the project may be very difficult. Your choice could mean the loss of your teammate or possible some losses in the progress of your project(i.e., Money)

1. As project manager, there will be many instances where you have to make quick decisions due to time constraints. When in this situation, it is expected for project managers to make good decisions. One of the points that stuck out to me is "Focus on decisions, not discussion".
2. One of the good characteristics of a good project manager is having the "Flexibility and Openness to Change". A project manager's "flexibility affects the project member's ability to create solutions."
3. A better project manager is not one to dictate but to mentor. Instead of making all the decisions, the manager involves everyone's voice but still makes the final decision.
4. Having IT knowledge as an project manager is a great plus to where they "ask the right questions and cover all bases." This is also a good way to earn the respect of their team.
5. "Handling external demands". When dealing with stakeholders, it is a requirement for project managers to be able to handle & compromise the different demands of stakeholders. The "ability to communicate at multiple levels".

1. PMBoK is a set of standard terminology and guidelines for project management.
2. Regardless of whether you are working with a great team or one that struggles, your style of management can influence the success of the project.
3. The majority of managers are promoted because of their software development expertise. But becoming a successful manager requires a drastic change of focus. There is a set of expectations to consider before making the leap to project management.
4. Just because you follow the rules of your software development process doesn't necessarily guarantee project success.
5. By incorporating performance testing early in a project life-cycle, software projects have a better chance to reach better quality and meet customer expectations.

From all that I have learned so far; the most that I took for myself was from the book.

I. I learned about the project Management life cycle which uses process groups to move projects forward. The process is initiating, planning, executing, monitoring, controlling, and finally closing.

II. Another thing that I learned about project management is that gains controls over four variables, including time, cost, quality, scope, and risk.

III. To start researching a project, the first thing that is needed is to know the origination of the project. Before launching an it project it has a history. When being a project manager you would need to get a brief on background and content of that project.

IV. To be a successful project manager I would need to have a clear and concise vision of what that project will be, when it would end, and how would you be able to lead your team to that destination. And every project needs at least one contingency plan.

V. I also learned that scope planning sessions or “white boarding” session is very helpful to achieve high-level results and understating’s of that project.
