My name is Aslima Sarip Alonto, 20 years old, an upcoming 3rd-year college student, hopefully. Also, I am a grade 8 student in Arabic school but got stopped when the pandemic hit. Since then, I have been focusing on my studies and personal growth, eager to continue my education in both my college and Arabic studies. I hope to return to my Arabic school soon and complete my education there as well, as I believe it is important to maintain my cultural heritage and language skills. I love singing, but I don't have talent for it. My dream is to be a person with no problems and whose only duty in her time is to pray and enjoy life. I only hope I can let my family, especially my mother, feel what having one problem feels like—a life where the only problem you have is how to enjoy your day.

When I was 6, my father married his second wife. I remember feeling a mix of anger and confusion as our family dynamics began to change, and I wondered what this new chapter would mean for us all. I grew up watching my mother and father fight. I saw my mother cry at night, but she always smiled during the day, trying to protect us from the pain.

Despite it all, I still love my father. He didn’t leave us. He made sure we didn’t grow up without what we deserved. Our family felt broken, but he provided for us and his second family too. I have 3 sisters and 4 brothers with my mother and 3 sisters and 2 brothers with my father’s second wife. We weren’t close growing up, but after my father passed away, we started reconnecting. I hope we can all become closer as one family.

I was an honor student from Grade 7 to Grade 9 but when the pandemic came and I lost my dad on December 25, 2020, I almost lost my passion for studying. After 2 years, I get back on track as I realize I have dreams. I continue my studies and graduate from Mindanao State University as a senior high school student with honor.

My dream is to give my family a better future, to be financially stable, and to one day visit Makkah with my mother.
I am scared of what my future will be, but I have faith that everything will be alright. I keep going because I know there is still hope. Hope fuels my ambition, motivating me to work hard and pursue opportunities that will lead me closer to my goals. I believe that with dedication and perseverance, I can turn my dreams into reality and create a brighter future for myself and my family.

Stepping into college, I met many new people. Some friends gave me hope, some gave me hurt, and some gave me laughter that helped me through tough days.

But what matters most are the friends who stayed—the ones who make life lighter even when it’s hard. Life can be a challenging journey, but with these friends by my side, the burdens feel more manageable. Their unwavering support and genuine laughter remind me that even in the darkest times, there is always a reason to smile and to laugh. We help each other, share our dreams, laugh at what the future might bring, and tell endless stories about one another. Together, we remind each other that we don’t have to face life’s challenges alone.
