What is New and Old Money?
- New Money, or Nouveau riche were people who've built their wealth in the current generation. While Old Money are people who've had money between generations.

What does it mean in the Great Gatsby?
- East and West Egg are both places within the novel that are distinguished by the difference in wealth.

What is the Valley of Ashes?
- The Valley of Ashes is a farm where ashes grow like wheat into ridges, hills, grotesque gardens and every other place of flora. Ashes take the forms of houses and chimneys and rising smoke. It's heavily polluted by factories, and carries a thick vail of depression.

What is its significance in the Novel?
- The Valley of Ashes represents the moral and social decay that's caused by the pursuit of wealth. While the rich indulge themselves with their own pleasure, the poor strive to move out of the rather depressed area. The Valley symbolizes their difficult situation. George Wilson for example is someone who lives among the dirty ashes, and as such- they pass due to the conditions.
