In the memoir The Glass Castle, the walls children especially Jeannette was able to turn their lives around from their harsh childhood to their new life in New York.

Page P.251 “On weekends, we all met at Lori’s apartment. We ate fried pork chops or heaping plates of spaghetti and meatballs and sat around talking about Welch, laughing so hard at the idea of all that craziness that our eyes watered.”

This picture represents the freedom that Jeannette got after moving away from her parents into New York which was their redemption moving to their new lives.

Responsibility

In The Glass Castle, Jeannette took upon tough responsibilities on her own that her parents should have been doing like feeding Brain and Maureen. Brian also defended Jenette from bullies occasionally and his sisters from strangers and men who tried to assault them while they slept. Which is something their parents should be doing. Jeannette, Lori, and Brian saved up money to get away and live in New York which their parents could have been helping them and their parents struggled to provide food.

This picture represents all the jobs and difficult task or challenges the kids had to do on their own since. Jeannette sometimes had the job to find food and feed her younger siblings and also getting a job or a way to make money to save up for Loris escape to New York and being able to just eat food. Her parents couldn't provide for them so they had to find food themselves and survive.

Identity

Jeannette Walls really shows her identity that she found as she was growing up. Despite all the hard problems and situations and the dysfunctional family she grew up with she never gave up and learned to embrace those characteristics and skills that she gained and worked hard even with her siblings to pursue their dreams or a better life.

In the first two chapters of the memoir you start to see the true identity of who Jeannette is. She is a curious girl learning and wishing her family lived better. Later on in the last chapter of the book she learned so much going through the tough challenges she went through to get where she was.

This picture represents Jeanette and each of the walls family of who they are as a person and what their morals are and their personality.

Sibling Bond

Even though the children went through tough times they always took care of each other, feeding themselves, protected each other and also helped each other move to New York. Brian had a good bond and is a hero to his siblings. He tried fighting off Jeannettes bullies at school and also tried protecting his sisters from strangers that come in the house and attempt to assault Jeanette.

In chapter 2 Jeanette is sleeping when she feels and hears someone trying to assault her and Brian immediately wakes up to attack. The next nights they stay up with weapons for defense against strangers who come in through the windows at night. P. 229 “I believed she would. Because I knew that if Lori never got out of Welch, neither would I.”

This picture represents the bond and the love that each of the siblings have for eachother.

Forgiveness

In the end of the memoir Jeannette forgives her mother and her father and would still seek a good bonding relationship despite all the tough challenges and difficult moments the Walls family went through. On the other hand Brian doesn't really forgive Rose Marry as she basically rubbed Brian getting assaulted by Erma off of her shoulder and couldn't provide food for them.

When the parents moved to New York to see their kids Lori felt bad and let them stay with them for a bit which shows lori's forgiveness and sympathy.

This picture represents how Jeannette forgivers her parents and talks about it in a meeting.

Fantasy vs Reality

In the memoir Jeannette and her siblings are exposed to their parents care and their beliefs that are brought on them such as Rex walls thinking the government is after them and won't get government aid because of what they think will happen. Another thing is the "Glass Castle" which is a broken promise because it was the fathers dream for the family but in reality it actually never happened.

P.155 “But he never got around to that, either, and as Brian and I watched, the hole for the Glass Castle’s foundation slowly filled with garbage.”

This picture represents the glass castle that the kids dreamed of and how they thought that Rex would get them out of their struggles in their young life but in reality it never happened.
