In "Eleven," Rachael explains that as we grow older, we continue change and develop, but we do not lose our past self. Instead we keep them not knowing like Russian dolls. Sometimes we will act like a 2 year old who is crying relentlessly because a bad thing had happened. Sometimes we feel like a 4 year old who is going to his first day in preschool.

We know that cheating is wrong and that we should not do it. But some of us do it. In "The Chaser," the main character is clearly madly in love. An old man shows him the love potion that is effective and very cheap, but he also shows him the anti love potion which is instead expensive. In a way, the old man can be seen as a manifestation of desire who is tempting the main character into taking the love potion. But the readers understand that the old man has seen men like Alan before. He knows that they will eventually come back for the glove potion. In a way, desire is something that we all have and sometimes we let desire control us. The author is trying to teach us that letting our own desires control will lead to terrible consequences.

With time, we can understand a poem's style, and discover what the author is really trying to say. While I was in highschool, I found this really interesting TED talk that talks about how the speaker teaches prison inmates writing and poetry.
