         <description><![CDATA[<div>The Ottoman Empire was already close to falling before the war. It was forced to break apart into mandates once they lost. Britain controlled three of these mandates, Iraq, Palestine, and Transjordan. France gained the other two, Lebanon and Syria. The Ottoman Empire only retained the land of modern day Turkey.</div>]]></description>
