Help us provide meaningful and insightful advice to other GLOBE members based on your own success story. Successful cohorts are those who bond together so well that remain together and actively engaged in both monthly events and weekly meetings, and even beyond that. Please identify yourself and tell us your story. Click the "+" icon on the lower-right corner to make a new post.

Reach out!!

I wrote this insight as part of our group's September reflection, but I would like to share here with everyone as well:
Probably most of you would not imagine that I almost did not apply for GLOBE this Fall, because most of my previous group members in Spring were not active at all (except Shreenandan: Thanks a lot, pal!!!).
For those that are struggling to meet people within your own cohort group, my suggestion is: Try to reach out others!!! Time goes really fast and life is short !!
If your group is not active enough …try to talk with them... And/or reach other GLOBE members!
One successful story started with Pei Sin, Sagar and Shreenandan. We did the “initial kick” on the GLOBE Sports Initiative !! I believe that has been a great bond and chance for other GLOBE members to join us! Because of that, the idea of running the 5k together was very memorable! Thank you guys!

Be nice

I think the key to success of our group was that everyone was really nice. We stood up to each other when ideas came up, and we participated even if it may not be something that we really like. It was great that we had the mindset "let's just give it a try". Also members were very accommodating. When people were busy, we met for a short time. We also tried working together when we were all busy. Being flexible helped. Maybe we were also lucky to have great people in our group!

Engage and Be Vulnerable - Kinan

How do we connect with others? It's a pretty tough question, isn't it? It's context-dependent and very complicated. However, there are proven techniques that you can use to enhance your experience. In order to be a successful leader, you must be able to express your personality with complete vulnerability. It's inevitable that not everyone will like your ideas 100% of the time. That's human nature. The reason groups fail is because people are unwilling to acknowledge the differences amongst one another and come to a common meeting ground. If you can make yourself vulnerable first be completely expressing your interests, others will follow. The reason "The Lava Tigers" have been successful is because we maintain communication and exchange ideas about possible events even if we don't necessarily think that everyone will like our idea(s). We keep the communication open and non-judgmental, so we can always come to conclusions about places to meet and activities to do. If you're shy, this is going to be your opportunity to grow. You are given the framework to succeed. Everyone in the GLOBE family is on a team for everyone's enjoyment of the program. Never forget that. There are people on the sidelines willing to make your experience amazing including Yun, Roberto, Chase, and other GLOBE members.
