Simplified Life

One example of living a simplified life, like the transcendentalists believe in, is the modern trend of people moving into tiny houses. Many people are giving up their material goods and downsizing into tiny house with less possessions. Transcendentalists would fully support this trend because they wanted to give up material goods and live with less possessions.

Nature

Transcendentalists believe in a strong connection with nature and that nature is a beautiful place where someone can find the meaning of life in. An example on this belief in nature in today's society is the TV show Alaska the last frontier. The people on the show live in remote places in the Alaskan wilderness and they rely totally on the woods and nature for everything they need in life. Transcendentalists would approve of this because nature is the homesteaders life line and they rely on it solely and not on society for what they need in life.

Non-Conformity

One example of the transcendentalist belief of not conformity, in today's society, is snoop dog's young wild and free song. The song says,
"So what we get drunk
So what we smoke weed
We’re just having fun
We don’t care who sees
So what we go out
That’s how it's supposed to be
Living young and wild and free"
Snoop Dog is saying that he smokes weed and that he doesn't care what other people think about him doing that. He's not conforming to society's beliefs that smoking weed is bad. He is practicing non-conformity like a true transcendentalist.

Individualism and self-reliance

An example of individualism and self-reliance in our society today is the people on the show Alaskan Bush People. They are people who live on the grid with no connection to society so they are forced to fend for themselves in the Alaskan wilderness and rely on themselves for food shelter and water. Transcendentalists would believe in this kind of living because they believed that people should rely on themselves and not on others for what they need.

Goodness in All

An example of the transcendentalists' theory of goodness in all, in today's society, is the story of a blind man who is finding a way to do good even though he is disabled by blindness. The man is from Cedar Rapids and he is a bell ringer for the salvation army but instead of ringing a bell he is spreading Christmas cheer by singing Christmas carols. This is an example of goodness in all because a blind, old man would not be seen as someone who may be a good person but he is doing good in the world even though he is disabled.
