Later on, Bolivar resigned from his leadership role. Gran Colombia dissolved within approximately 1-2 years, forming the independent states of Venezuela, Ecuador, and New Granada.</p>]]></description>

Their differences then turned into a civil war, which was the Venezuelan War for Independence. Venezuela successfully gained its independence from Spain.</p>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>Year: 1822-1823</p><p>Leader: Prince Dom Pedro I</p><p><br/></p><p>The threat of losing their limited control over local affairs started large opposition among Brazilians. Pedro realized that Brazil's people wanted independence, although they were not yet revolting. He wanted to make his people happy but he didn't know if they'd win the war. They won the war, gaining their independence. </p>]]></description>
