This is a great question. Teachers are free to begin their school year in the style that best suits you, but there are certain objectives to be met, and they are as follows:

1. Co-creation of class essential agreements
2. Establishing routines, procedures and expectations.
3. Focus on 'Attending' - e.g. role-playing common situations around school - lining up to get lunch, running in the hall, going to the bathroom, moving through the school in a line, being on time/late from class, especially after break or lunch
4. Provocation/Tuning In to your first UOI

It is essential to begin the school year on the right foot and establish your routines and expectations now, as it becomes much more challenging to do so as the year progresses.

Centres are a fantastic teaching strategy, however, we do not have specific premade centres packs as centres are targeted workstations designed to cater to the evolving needs of individuals and groups within a class.

In regards to specific resources, please let us know what you need and we can do our best to accommodate and support you. For example what math manipulatives would you need? Do you need popsicle sticks for spelling (learners create words using the sticks), do you need dice, rulers, or plastic sleeves to store games and activities? 

Some items we may already have, some we may need to purchase, but our budget is very limited this year, so in this regard, I will do what I can.

2. Not having signposted areas for G6+ to congregate also makes it hard to gather kids.

3. Some students have siblings in DP who drive themselves home. How does the release process account for this?

4. Some families share drivers or family members to pick up several students. Can we please send another informer to parents saying that the QR is unique to the student, and they need to present the QR for ALL students they are collecting.

5. Some students walk home or catch the bus. How are HR teachers meant to know who these students are so we don't think we have lost a kid?

I was under the impression this was not allowed?

I also saw several pushing fights as large numbers of kids tried to ram themselves into the elevator at the same time and worry it might get dangerous, especially for younger/smaller students.

If it is prohibited, maybe we can inform the students again that it is not allowed.
