If what they say is wrong or it doesn't fit the scene o r it doesn't make sense, they can change what they say. There has been a lot of scenes in films, TV series or adverts where they change the dialogue and because how they say the new dialogue fits how they said the old ones, the whole process is smooth and it's unrecognisable.
It can also change a trailer, if the trailer is about a comedy or a kids film in can be changed into a horror type of film.

For example, if someone talks about something (event, crime, any type of news) for 10 minutes, the news broadcaster can edit the audio and the clip (if it's radio, it's just the audio) to like 1 or 2 minute news story.

I choose this scene from the second season of Daredevil. I think it's unique scene with the audio being edited in a way that changes the whole meaning of the scene. In the episode Matt loses his hearing and goes deaf momentarily and loses most of his senses. Because he was shot in the head (he did have a mask/helmet on) by the Punisher. They cut the audio so you could feel and understand what's happening to this character. Personally I felt sad for the character, it's really a uncomfortable scene because it puts you in the scene and you feel it. The producers done a good job because it had an effect on me. So in the end by cutting the audio from the scene they changed the meaning.

What it actually does is that it synchronise the audio and the moving image clip. The audio and the clip is recorded and filmed separately so they clap the clapperboard before filming a scene and when the editors edit the product they know when to start and sync the audio and the clip. They could use clapperboard technique in a radio show, in the same way.

We edit any moving image or audio product by shortening the footage or the audio so it flows smoothly and it becomes watchable. But the most important reason we edit is to maintain continuity. It adds meaning to the products and it keeps the audience engaged. To edit sound skilfully, you need to know how to edit the sound so it fits the running time or in to the narrative, editors must know how to sync and pace dialogue. Sound is the most important part of these products. Sound is sixty percent of a film and it's split in to three; SFX, music and dialogue. There are sound bridges in editing. It is used to transition between two or multiple clips. Editing audio is important and we can see the reasons down below.
