Talking about how you feel about the situation can really help it.
Another thing you can do is accept the fact that they are gone. If you accept the fact that they are gone it can be easier in the long run. 
Finally, the last thing you ca do is celebrate there life. He would always act like he was in the military as a kid. My grandma said she remembered that whenever he turned 18 for his birthday he went and applied and got accepted. He joined the military as a sniper marksman for the marine core.
