The PGCE has taught me how formulate effective lesson plans, that help the student's to learn. The first thing I learnt was timings, especially in activities. People take completely different amounts of time to do tasks then you could ever imagine.

I learnt that students tend to flourish in nurturing environments. If you show a genuine interest in them they are more likely to respond and be willing to put in the effort. If you are motivated, they are more likely to be motivated. Students want to know you care.

Give your students motive to work by making it relevant to what they wish to do in the future or how it will help them to get a better grade. Don't just give them assignments for 'fun' that have no relevance.
