Dalí was born in Figueres, Spain in 1904. He made technical yet highly unusual paintings, sculptures, visionary explorations in film, and even life sized interactive art. Dalí started creating art at a very young age and was very lucky because, both of his parents supported him. In the beginning of his schooling Salvador went to public school but his father realized that it was not for him. So, at age six Salvador began private school at Hispano-French School of the Immaculate Conception. This is where he learned French, the language that Dalí would primarily use as an artist. Salvador painted one of his earliest known works in the year 1914, it was a landscape that now is part of the Dalí museums permanent collection. The image is shown below.

Francisco was born in Fuendetodos 1746. Over the course of his long career, Goya moved from jolly and lighthearted to less happy artwork in his paintings, drawings, etchings, and frescoes. On 25 July 1773, Goya married in Madrid Josefa Bayeu, the sister of Francisco Bayeu, the leading Spanish artist at court. Bayeu greatly assisted Goya's career by obtaining for him a position at the royal tapestry factory, for which Goya executed sixty-three cartoons by 1792. One of Francisco’s most famous paintings was called The White Duchess. There is a picture of this painting below.

Antoni was born on June 25th 1852 in Reus. He came from a family of boilermakers (A boilermaker is a person who is called to deal with an emergency with a boiler system. They also assemble boilers.) This allowed the young Antoni to acquire a special skill for working with space and volume as he helped his father and grandfather in the family workshop. As a child Gaudí’s health was quite delicate, so he had to spend long periods of time resting at the summer house in Riudoms. In 1870 he moved to Barcelona to pursue his academic career in
architecture. Later, in 1878 he completed his studies. One of his most famous buildings is The Basílica de la Sagrada Família, also known as the Sagrada Família, is a large unfinished Roman Catholic minor basilica in Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain.
Remedios Varo

Remedios Varo was born in Anglès, Spain 1908. Her father was a hydraulic engineer, a profession that often uprooted the family. He recognized Remedios’ artistic talent very early, he had Varo reproduce his technical engineering sketches. At age 15, her parents enrolled her at the Escuela de Bellas Artes in Madrid. Varo rebelled against it all—the formal instruction of the Escuela de Bellas Artes, her father’s expectations, and her mother’s religious ideology. So, when she was 19, she eloped with fellow student Gerardo Lizárraga, and the two left for Paris. However, soon after they moved to Paris, Remedios left Gerardo. When World War II neared Paris in 1940, Varo was jailed under suspicion of espionage along with fellow Spanish expatriates. Varo produced little to no work while in Paris. She finally found success when working in Mexico City. Below is a picture of one of Varo’s most famous paintings. The painting is called “Harmony” and it was created in 1956.

Julio González was born on September 21, 1876, Barcelona, Spain. Julio died on March 27, 1942, in Arcueil, France. González received artistic training from his father, a sculptor and metalworker, as well as at the School of Fine Arts in Barcelona. He was a Spanish sculptor and painter who developed the expressive use of iron as a medium for modern sculpture. In 1927 González made his first sculptures in welded iron. In the late 1920s Picasso sought Julio’s technical advice and assistance in the construction of welded sculptures. Julio adopted a more naturalistic style for his best-known sculpture, Montserrat I (1936–37), an amazing work inspired by the horrors and injustices of the Spanish Civil War. Miquel worked with a wide range of mediums including paintings, works on paper, ceramics, bronze sculptures, large-scale installations, and performances. He has worked in many places all around the world. Barceló gets lots of inspiration from the different locations that he has spent his time. Including Barcelona, Portugal, Palermo, Paris, Geneva, New York, and the Himalayas. Miquel was introduced to art by his mother who was also an artist. Barceló went to the Decorative Arts School in Palma de Mallorca for a year. After that, Barceló enrolled at the School of Fine Arts in Barcelona in 1975, where he attended classes for a few months before returning to Mallorca. In the 1980’s Miquel’s work was included in many international exhibitions. In Barceló's remarkable installation at the United Nations, which was presented to the public in November of 2008, he covered the massive domed ceiling of the room in vibrant, multi-colored stalactite forms. Together with a team of twenty assistants, Barceló created these cave-like forms with a plaster base, to which they then applied colorful paints made from pigments sourced from all over the world.
