Locke believed that the government should have very limited power. He thought they shouldn't be able to interfere much with citizens. Also that the government should never have so much power over the people that the people couldn't overthrow the government, if needed.

He also believed in natural rights. These are rights that all people have automatically in their life. The rights are life, liberty, and property. He also thought that if a ruler did not believe in or allow others to abide by these law then he or she should be overthrown.

Another belief Locke had, had to do with theology. He believed in certain aspects of scripture. He saw the importance of scripture never contradicting itself. However he also differentiated between two levels of the authority within the Scriptures. Meaning that he may have seen different partd of the bible held more authority then others.

Locke also believed in separation of powers. He thought that the government should be split up into several different branches. This was so that no part of the government could become too powerful. This concept of his helped influence the democratic system we have in place today.

Another thing that Locke believed in was empiricism. This is the belief that knowledge is primarily derived from sensory experiences. He thought that when you are born your mind is like a blank slate and all the knowledge you gain is built from experience throughout your life.

Declaration of independence

John Locke had a huge influence on the Declaration of Independence. His beliefs about how every individual should have the rights to life, liberty, and property. This was later altered by Thomas Jefferson and put into the Declaration of Independence at "all men should have the rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness."

Locke's philosophies also had a major impact in several things that were inputted into the constitution. One being, his idea of separation of powers. This idea of his to have multiple branches of government stemmed from his beliefs about the government having limited power over the people. These ideas both played a big role when the three branches of government were being decided and put into the constitution.
