The name of this book is The Throne of Fire. It is the second book in the three book series of The Kane Chronicles. This book was written by Rick Riordan. This is book, along with all of Rick's other novels, falls into the genre of fantasy.

The book follows the journey of the Kane family, mainly Sadie and Carter. The two siblings found out one year ago that they had magical powers passed down to them from their royal Egyptian ancestors. Ever since they have been teaming up with other magicians and teaching them how to use magic. The god of Chaos, Apophis, is attempting to break free from his prison and destroy the world. The only one who can stop him is the sun god, Ra. The problem is Ra is a retired god who is nowhere to be found. The only way to reach him is by putting together all three parts of the book of Ra and summoning him. The characters journey to find the three parts of the book is difficult as many magicians are against them yet they still manage to piece it together. They summon Ra when Apophis arrives, defeat Apophis, and save the world from utter destruction.

I give this book four stars. It is full of action and surprise. You are always wondering what will happen next and if the characters will survive or not. Although, sometimes it is hard to follow along as there are different narrators telling different stories in each chapter. The characters also have to complete and unnecessary amount of side missions and usually fail to make logical decisions. I recommend this book to anyone who likes ancient history and action but has a large amount of patience.

The link above is to a review of the book The Throne of Fire by Rick Riordan. This book review gives the book a 4.2/5. The review talks about how the characters got into the situation they are currently in. This review also categorizes the novel as fantasy. The review praises Rick Riordan for the consistent humor and action throughout the book. It also acknowledges the fact that there is a lot of information to remember and that a reader may need to reread the previous book to help themselves understand what is taking place and why.

I agree on most of the major points with this review. Rick Riordan does consistently inject comedy into each chapter which is very useful in keeping readers interested. Rick also keeps action consistent with at least one battle per chapter. The book review above fails to emphasize how difficult the story is to follow at times. It also fails to say that the book can be boring to read at times due to an overload of suspense. I did not learn anything new from this book review.

The universal theme of this novel is that sometimes it its better to take a risk than to play it safe. Carter and Sadie could have allied with other magicians and gods and tried to defeat Apophis without Ra. This would have been the less risky thing to do because they would not have had any gods or magicians trying to kill them. The problem is that this would almost definitely have led to their death by Apophis. They new this so they took the risk and tried to summon Ra. They had gods and magicians try to kill them but ultimately accomplished their goal of summoning Ra. Once he was summoned, he defeated Apophis and the Kane family had saved the world once again.

This universal theme is relevant in our world today. This is because sometimes you must take a risk to be successful. For example, a kid who plays football has to deal with this theme. He could try out for the school team and it would be difficult and intimidating but if he makes it, it's awesome. Or, he could play it safe and try out for the recreational league team. Then he knows he will make the team, but it wouldn't be an accomplishment because all kids make the team.

Sadie Kane is a primary character in the novel. She is very out spoken and will let you know exactly how she feels, "...a big snake is about to swallow the sun and destroy the world. Ow! What was that for? Sadie just punched me. She says I'm going to scare you too much," (Riordan 1). Sadie never listens to Carter , her brother, who makes this clear when he says, "I was about to say 'Sadie, no!' but of course that would've been pointless. Sadie never listens to me," (Riordan 14). Sadie is an important character who will let you know how she feels and who tends to rush into decisions.

Sadie is Carter's sister yet she looks nothing like him. Carter gives a fairly in depth description by saying, "She takes after our mom, who was white, so Sadie's skin is much lighter than mine. She has straight caramel-colored hair, not exactly blond but not brown, which she usually dyed with streaks of bright colors. That day it had red streaks down the left side. Her eyes are blue…just like our mom's," (Riordan 7). Carter looks like his dad. Sadie looks like her mom. If you did not already know who they were, you would never have suspected that they are brother and sister.

I can relate to Sadie Kane in some ways but not all. I am like Sadie because I do not mask how I feel. I, like Sadie, will also let you know my opinion and why it is the right one. I also take risks and sometimes rush into decisions like Sadie does. I cannot relate to Sadie in the fact of how she looks. My siblings and I look extremely similar. We all look like our dad.
