I have been in numerous groups throughout my schooling career. A few groups I have participated in were very challenging and unsuccessful, others had a great deal of success. Having endured both, I have learned that the groups that were successful all had a few things in common that made the experience meaningful. In the groups that did well, I noticed that each had a leader appointed and every member had a different role that they were responsible for. Members were respectful in giving and receiving positive feedback to and from each other. Everyone took turns speaking and sharing their comments and beliefs about the specific topic at hand. Overall, cooperating together produced an excellent group experience.

The most important ASCA ethical codes I would use in a group for this class would be the ASCA ethical code,‘‘B.RESPONSIBILITIES TO PARENTS/GUARDIANS, SCHOOL AND SELF”. From that, A and D of “B.2 Responsibilities to School” stood out to me. I believe in any group setting, a group member has to assume the role of the leader or one has to be selected within the group. The leader would be needed to set the tone and pace of the group, making sure everyone stays on task, to ensure every member’s voice is heard. Having leadership, communication and professional relationships within the group is a great way to help build rapport amongst members; ultimately, creating a stronger foundation (ASCA, 2016). For my Professional Dispositions, I chose Fitness and Growth. Working cooperatively within the group while being open minded about new ideas and providing positive feedback to colleagues are things that are needed to make the group run smoothly and efficiently (2019b).
