This is a Fremen sietch called the cave of ridges where Paul and The Lady Jessica are welcomed. While they are here Paul is forced to fight someone when he doesn't want to.

This is the southern part of the desert. This is important because it is Fremen territory and they are trying to cultivate it and make it inhabitable without stillsuits (water reclaiming devices). This is where Paul-Muad'Dib goes to ride a sandworm and take tests to become one of the Fremen.

Dear Mr. Herbert,

I must say your book Dune is a masterpiece, but I have some questions. First off when you decided to write Dune did you anticipate having an entire appendix in the back for all the words you made up? Another question I have is if Paul is the antagonist or protagonist? I ask this because in the book he keeps eluding to this "jihad" which seems to be a bad thing that he would cause. I also want to know why you chose to write Dune? Even though it is kind of annoying to have to flip to the back every time you use a made up word your book is still amazing. I do wonder why you didn't use normal words in Dune when they would work just fine? These are the most prevalent questions that popped up when I read it and I would enjoy hearing your answer.

The author believes that you should not overlook the importance of things you have and abundance of because others may not share the same luxuries as you, and you should be thankful that you have that privilege. Throughout the book the importance of water shows up many times especially when Paul and his mom go to live with the Fremen and they have to adapt to the lack of water. In the book it says "'It's... water,' Chani said. Jessica marveled at the way she said it. 'Water.' So much meaning in a simple sound." That quote goes to show how little things to some can have great importance to others. When Paul was on Caladan there was so much water that they had oceans, fountains and other luxuries while Arrakis has the need for people to wear specialized suits that take their sweat and make it drinkable. Even when someone dies the Fremen will take out the water from their dead body and use it again. The way things are on Caladan you can bury your dead without worrying about running out of water. These are some of the ways in Dune how main characters had overlooked the importance of one thing until they realized how fortunate they were to of had so much of it in the first place.

This is important because it signifies the importance of water and how deep of a meaning it will hold in the new life that Paul and his mother are beginning.

"...They'll call me Muad'Dib 'The One Who Points the Way.' Yes... that's what they'll call me." Page 213. This is important because it displays the vast knowledge that Paul has acquired as well was showing the reader how he will lead the Fremen and direct them into the future.

I gave this book a 4.5 out of 5 stars. The reason I gave it this rating was because. I thought it was an excellent book except for all of the flipping to the back to find the definition of some made up words.

This is important because it shows a depiction of an important Fremen right of passage where you have to ride a sandworm. When Paul does this it signifies that he is now one of the Fremen.

This is the scene where the Harkonnens take over. This scene sets up Paul and his mother's journey into the desert where they will join the Fremen. It also shows how powerful the forces against Paul are and how the odds are not in his favor.
