When I was a Writing Tutor in college, my friends would request someone else for help, because they thought I would judge them. One of my goals, as a tutor, is to always make the person feel confident. No one should ever be afraid to ask for help.

My biggest accomplishment (so far) in College has been receiving the Excellence in English award...coz I speek da gud ingerlish! The greatest difficulty has been time management. It was hard adjusting to homework again and self-motivating.
As an English Studio employee my biggest accomplishment has been within the evolution of my helping abilities. Everyday is like another lesson for me, and that only helps other students even more. My biggest difficulty has been when I feel I've helped all I can. The realization that sometimes you can't help everyone. People can be their own biggest roadblock.

I haven't been an English studio employee for very long, but I would say my biggest accomplishment so far has been becoming more confident in my abilities to help students with a variety of issues. For my biggest difficulty, I agree with Heather: I struggle most when I don't know what else I can do to help a student.

This is my first time ever as a tutor, though throughout my life, I've always assisted people with whatever difficulties they were facing. The biggest difficulty I've faced during my time as an English Studio employee is being unable to help some people to the extent they would want to be helped; it's like a boxer implementing in a fight every technique he's learned against the fiercest opponent he's ever faced only to realize that sometimes your best isn't good enough. There's a resignation that comes with helping people in that you can only do but so much in any situation, not just tutoring. Academically, my biggest obstacle has been time-management. If I wasn't such a procrastinator, I could've saved myself the agony of spending many nights frantically typing a last-minute paper of cramming for a critical exam.

My biggest triumph was the first time I worked with a class and I had to patch the instructor through on the computer so she could teach the class. (Fun and interesting!! Of course, now it is not such a big deal with facetime, etc.)
Believe it or not, my greatest struggle is keeping the studio humming along with no hiccups--just keeping it clean and organized is a daily struggle.

The biggest trial that I have had to overcome in my academic career is definitely time management. I keep myself rather busy with my family, boyfriend, tutoring, coaching, church, and school! I realized, however, that keeping a white board in my room along with my detailed planner helps me manage my time wisely. The biggest thing that I have had to overcome in tutoring (anatomy as well as English) is learning that I cannot help students that do not want to be helped. I cannot force people to fix their problems, neither can I fix them for them! It's completely worth it, however, when I work with students who are happy to be here and eager to learn.

My biggest struggle was experiencing blindness in my left eye during my time as a student at Nash Community College. Itching eyes and progressive dimming of vision began one month after my first day of class. Praise the Lord for cataract surgery which restored my vision to 20/20. My greatest triumph is finding my way through the maze of technology in order to help students. One of my greatest joys is to see the "light bulb of understanding" go on for students.

My biggest difficulty AS WELL AS my biggest accomplishment in my academic/teaching career was learning how to discipline a classroom full of teenagers (both in grad school and while teaching high school). After a few years, I eventually found my stride and got much better at it, but it was still something I hated to do (and it's still the reason why I can't go back to doing it)! My biggest difficulty as a studio employee was learning where I fit in; when I first arrived, everything in the studio seemed to move and flow in its own way, and for me it was like stepping into an airplane while it's speeding down the runway and being told to quickly learn how to fly it before take-off (I was the new pilot, and the students, tutors and instructors were the passengers). It was a bit intimidating. But after some months, I learned how and where to incorporate my input to contribute to the busy studio environment.
