         <description><![CDATA[<div>1) There was more than a lot of air pollution in Rome. The air pollution came from the odors from trash, sewage, and also from the industries that have been smelting which had caused the air pollution to become a problem.<br>2) The water pollution was. a huge issue in a few cities, the water pollution came from dirty sewages.&nbsp;<br>3) Humans got most of their energy from wood, the Greeks had knowledge of solar energy to survive.&nbsp;<br>4) No and yes, it was not mainly practiced a lot. But in China, India, &amp; Peru had understood the term impact of soil erosion.<br>5) Lead Poisoning was a very common problem with those in the upper class, the romans who had used/drank wine that was lead sweet. The grape gulp was to sweeten their drinks and food with sugar of lead.&nbsp;<br>6) There was a lot of water pollution due to the fact that there wasn't as much sanitizing back then. The sewages were filthy because of the towns trash in them, which had made the water pollution awful.<br>7) Wood was being harvested a lot, the effects for this would be that water had enriched the soil it was helping the soil benefit the grass and also the live stock.&nbsp;<br>8) Diseases had affected the world by a huge decline in the human population due to poorly health care. They didn't have any knowledge of medicines or the right ones to care for those in need.&nbsp;</div><div><br></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>19) The purpose of the National Coast Anti-Pollution League was to counter and oppose dumping oil in the ocean.<br>20) Leaded gasoline was the first type of fuel to be used in an automobile. Especially unhealthy due to the fuel's exposure to lead which when used, leaks lead compounds into the air which pollutes the atmosphere and causes high lead blood levels in humans.<br>21) The Chemurgic Movement advocated for the use of widespread industrial use of renewable agricultural resources.<br><br></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>22) The 1948 Donora Smog brought much attention to the problem of air pollution. Donora is a town in Pennsylvania that was the center of one of the worst cases of air pollution at the time. The smog directly caused the deaths of 20 people and caused respiratory issues to half the population of the town.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>23) What's known as the "burning river" was Cuyahoga River. It received it's nickname due to the 13 different fires that set the river ablaze. This occurred due to extensive pollutants and chemicals which were dumped into the Cuyahoga.&nbsp;<br>24) Rachel Carson wrote 'Silent Spring' which kickstarted modern environmentalism by spreading awareness and educating readers on the affects humans have on the environment.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>25) In 1970, the United States government formed the Environmental Protection Agency. The organization was proposed by President Richard Nixon in order to of course, protect the environment.<br>26) Air pollution was reduced due to a shift in reliance on fuels and energy sources which had lower carbon emissions. An example of this is the Gasohol Competition Act which aided leaded fuel alternatives in the industry against their environmentally unhealthy counterparts.<br>27) Water pollution was curtailed by new laws which banned many different substances from being dumped in the ocean. An example of which is the Plastic Pollution Research and Control Act.<br>28) Due to the large scale manufacturing of plastics and the use of substances required for nuclear power, there is now an excess amount of plastic and nuclear waste which are both difficult to get rid of.<br><br><br><br></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>29) During this time there was a nuclear disaster in the Ukraine, Over two thousand square miles of land are contaminated and enormous amounts of radiation are released worldwide. Causing many to get sick. There was also a disaster in Bhopal that released cyanide gas. 3000 died immediately,&nbsp; another 8,000 died within a few weeks and 8,000 died of chronic effects. Left over 50 thousands people disabled&nbsp;<br><br>30) A major issues involving the Earth’s atmosphere arise is&nbsp; gasoline being the greatest source of atmospheric lead to pollution and another is the process of transforming India into a wasteland. There might be consequences from global warming, rising sea levels, drought and increased storm severity.&nbsp;</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>10) As The Enlightenment Era moved into the Industrial revolution, Malthus predicted that “food and resources will run out as populations explode”.<br><br>11) Air quality was bad for people to breathe in and health issues arose. Water quality was also bad so access to clean water was harder to find.</div><div><br>12) In the Early 1800’s in response to the yellow fever epidemic, Health inspectors were appointed and environmental sanitation was deemed more important.</div><div><br>13) Air pollution at this time was at a high. Evelyn wrote in 1684 about how smoke filled the air to the point where you could barely see and it was difficult to breathe.</div><div><br>14) Water pollution was also severe at this time, with water running from the hillside being muddy rather than clear.</div><div><br>15) When the Mother of the Forest was cut down, it set shock and anger through people.          <description><![CDATA[<div>33) Clinton protected 58 million acres of national forest from development and created eight million acres of land as new national monuments.<br>34) The Bush presidency did not do much to improve global warming and climate change. Did not keep up with the changes that they promised and did not take notice of the warnings. Bush is actually a US president who did not give much attention to environmental protection. The Bush administration would write fake reports to meet political ends.&nbsp;</div><div>35) The worldwide public health campaign against use of leaded gasoline. It is dangerous and causes pollution.&nbsp; The European Union also bans leaded gasoline as a public health hazard.</div><div><br></div>]]></description>

         <title>Progressive Era 1890-1920&#39;s</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>16) Rules for medical examination of workers in dangerous industries, the Refuse Act passed (preservation of navigable waters), The Bureau of Reclamation was established (administers money from sale of public lands to build dams &amp; irrigation projects), etc..<br><br>17) Theodore Roosevelt was known to greatly support the Progressive movement. He created the First National Bird Reserve, which was the beginning of The Wildlife Refuge System. In fact, Roosevelt’s first message to Congress included recommendations for forest and water conservation and reclamation.&nbsp;</div><div><br>18) The National Audubon Society was formed, promoting wildlife conservation. In 1906 The FDA was created and in 1907, the ​​USDA Animal Health and Plant Health Inspection Service was founded. Smoke Prevention Association of America, Bureau of Mines, National Safety Council, and the Save the Redwoods League were also formed in the Progressive Era among many other organizations.</div>]]></description>
