There are many things that caused Africa to be such an impoverished nation. These things include the exploitation of oil-rich African countries by large companies and corporations who do not have to pay taxes for the oil they are digging up.
The authoritarian rule of many African countries is also one of the many reasons that poverty is very prevalent in Africa. The authoritarian rule is often based off of religious beliefs, and therefor it restricts some people from things like getting proper education to getting a job that they would be more efficient at.
